Sangria Ingredients

Sangria is a traditional Spanish alcoholic drink that is loved around the world. Here are the ingredients to have on hand so you're always ready to create a Sangria Recipe that's adored!

Sangria always involves wine. While many people enjoy a red wine sangria, there are also white wine sangrias and sparkling wine sangrias. Whatever wine you love, a sangria can be made out of it. Now, granted, some types of wine tend to taste better with fruit than others. Mix and match until you find which are perfect for your taste buds! Some people favor sweeter wines, some prefer dryer wines. It is completely up to you.

One aspect of sangria is that it is a fruity wine with a kick. There is almost always a hard alcohol component to a sangria. This can be something "straight" like rum, gin or vodka. It can also be something that adds flavor, like Grand Marnier (orange flavored) or Midori (melon flavored). Fruit flavored liqueurs work really well with sangria. Keep a few of these on your shelves.

Fruit / Berries

I know, fresh fruit goes bad really quickly. Berries can be even worse. It's a struggle for me to eat my raspberries before they get squishy! One solution is to visit your local farmers' markets and get lovely, fresh items when they come out. How about wintertime, though? Another solution which works wonderfully is to keep a few bags of frozen fruits and berries in resealable containers in the freezer. That way any time you'd like a sangria you just reach into the freezer, grab a handful of an appropriate fruit or berry mix, and enjoy.

Ginger works wonderfully in sangrias, adding a spicy kick to the flavor. Orange peel is another great item to add into sangria for a zesty taste. Several people swear by mixing in cinnamon red hots for that cinnamony spiciness.

Ice Cubes

Sangria is best served cold! In addition to water-based ice cubes, look into getting the plastic washable ones. That way they keep your drink nice and cold, but don't dilute your sangria flavors.

Note: I created these sangria recipes and have had them online for years. If you find similar sangria recipes elsewhere, it's because someone copied my idea. I do appreciate it when visitors write in to warn me about the plagiarism - but usually there's not much I can do about it! What's really funny is when they copy my design right down to my sangria pitcher. That's a bit much :)
