Rating across a region is tricky. If you look at 10 different sources, you'll get 10 different ratings for some years. For other years, like 1994, there is universal agreement that the ports are fantastic. Sometimes even a bad year will make a good port from a high end winery. If you've got something in your basement, give it a try anyway! It might surprise you.
