Yes, from what I have read you don't want to take them out of the cage. Even if you have no intentions of taking them out of the cage I think a net is standard emergency equipment. wink

Ok need Grit and a Net lol.

I have an even bigger cage that I had Tucky and Chick in till I got the huge cage, but I'm not sure he needs something so big yet. I have to keep him up really high, for some reason, Chowder thinks he's a snack.

PDM mentioned it, I looked it up, some are on the fence about it some are not, so I'll probably offer some every other week.

And Chowder is my 5 month old Ragdoll Kitten. smile

Make sure you have a nest and at least one swing. I have a swing in my finch's cage. He hates when I take out to clean it. They also loves to take baths, so make sure to a tub in the cage. Just make sure its VERY shallow.

Ok found both sides, here is the other side.

Grit:
Today in the United State the use of grit is being discourage as being unnecessary for canaries because they shell their seed. However in the past, and still in most other countries today, it is considered an important ingredient for the canary diet. It is said to be essential in providing necessary minerals and elements as well as an aid in digestion. Possibly this change is a result of commercially developed pelleted diets.

I was thinking that canaries, since they are a member of the finch family did not hull it's seed before it ate it.

He hulls them that I can see. So finches don't hull seeds?

Got a tub in there, not too full. I'll grab him a little nest today as well.

He's got a swing, I moved one over. The one that was in his cage was broken, lying at the bottom of it covered in bird poop. frown

Yes, finches hull their seeds. They also love mirrors.
