Now that the Hot weather is here and we have to put our AC in the window I was wondering if it was safe to have a budgie in the same room as the air conditioner?? I have heard that is not ok and not sure where to put him as the AC will be in the livingroom/diningroom where we spend most of our time. We want him to be near us and wondered if he is in danger if he is in the same room as the AC. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated! Thank you?? If he is not allowed in the room where the AC what should we do with him? And how do we spend time with him if he is not allowed in there?? I'm confused!!! Please help????
Thank you Deanna

I did a few Google searches, I couldn't find anything saying window units were harmful. I'm not saying they aren't, I'm only saying I couldn't find anything saying they were.
I would definitely keep the keet out of the direct "flow" of the window unit. It would definitely cause drafts, but in the room shouldn't be a problem.
In the winter time I reverse my ceiling fans and it causes a draft that runs down the wall behind Cully's cage. So I hang a towel over the back right corner of her cage and then she's fine.
Hope that helps some!

Air conditioning should be fine as long as there is no cold air blowing on them. Stand where the cage is. If you feel any air blowing on you at all, move the cage and try again until there is no air. Drafts can cause colds and colds can lead to death. I hope that helps! <3

Yep, as long as the air conditioning isn't direct your parakeets should be fine. Mine are in central a/c 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Just watch to see if their feathers turn funny looking then they might be sick.

Right exactly. Think of it this way. What if the normal temperature was 110F? Your parakeets would roast. Air conditioning does its job to make a comfortable temperature that is better for healthy living. That's why we humans use it.
That being said like the others said be sure to not direct the stream at them. You want them in a comfortable, stable environment.
If you mean something about the *gas* in the AC unit, that never gets out. It's only regular air that comes out - it is cooled by touching cooled items inside the unit. Also, hospitals are cooled by AC so I think if there was ever a serious risk to babies and elderly and such that it's long since been addressed.

I am glad i found this topic. I was just about to ask this question. I think another good thing is to have a corner of the cage that is covered or have a cozy for them so if you are gone during the day, and they get chilled, they can go in there. I think a good temp that my keets have been comfortable at is about 73. They will have to move to our bedroom this summer where we have the window unit, but i spend alot of time in there on the hot days, so they will have alot of company.

Budgies are a popular pet bird species known for their playful personalities and vibrant colors. However, as with any pet, they require a comfortable living environment to thrive. One common concern for budgie owners is how to keep their pets cool during hot weather. While air conditioning can provide relief, it can also be costly and impractical for some. Fortunately, a DIY split unit can be a budget-friendly and effective solution for those looking to cool their budgie's living space.

Budgies, beloved for their vibrant plumage and playful antics, thrive in moderate temperatures, making air conditioning a crucial consideration. While these feathered companions can tolerate mild variations, extreme fluctuations can stress them. Owners in regions like Austin, where scorching summers are the norm, must prioritize maintaining a stable indoor climate. In emergencies, swift action is imperative, prompting searches like Emergency AC repair Austin to ensure both human comfort and avian well-being.
