This weekend I caught show on the radio, talking about the Academy Awards-and movies that won Best Picture when there were
films now considered classics also nominated. For example:
1952 Winner The Greatest Show on Earth - Cecil B. DeMille
Also nominated:
High Noon -- Stanley Kramer
Ivanhoe -- Pandro S. Berman
Moulin Rouge -- John Huston
The Quiet Man -- John Ford and Merian C. Cooper
I remember seeing the Greatest Show on Earth about 30 years ago on television, frankly it wasn't that great, but High Noon and the Quiet Man are certainly considered great classic movies-at least here in the US.
Or
1941 How Green Was My Valley - Darryl F. Zanuck
Blossoms in the Dust - Irving Asher
Citizen Kane - Orson Welles
Here Comes Mr. Jordan - Everett Riskin
Hold Back the Dawn - Arthur Hornblow, Jr.
The Little Foxes - Samuel Goldwyn
The Maltese Falcon - Hal B. Wallis
One Foot in Heaven - Hal B. Wallis
Sergeant York - Jesse L. Lasky and Hal B. Wallis
Suspicion - Alfred Hitchcock
Again How Green was My Valley was a good movie (I think is starred Bette Davis--But is far from being the film icon that
Citizen Kane is, or the classic film noir The Maltese Falcon, or Suspicion.
Anybody have any others?
