Sorry I have not posted. Barney has not been doing well due to the splinter he had removed. Infection, sluggish, not eating nor drinking. AFTER 4 TRIPS TO VET, I was told to let nature take its course. My other Keet Clover kept calling out to Barney so I placed them near each other, but clover wanted more. I was afraid to put them together and Barney was already not eating or drinking. However, this morning I put clover in with Barney for a few minutes. The most amazing thing. Clover was eating then putting the food in Barney mouth. Clover did the same thing with the water. Barney kept it down, I did it a few more times today. I need to go to work but took off a few day so I can put my keets together for a few minutes through out the day. I watch them when they are together and I do not let Clover stay in the cage. Clover seems to want to go back to his cage, but after an hour he will call out to Barney again Due you think this is a bad idea. Any advice would be great.

if it were me and this is only what id do ... if the birds outcome is looking as grave as you say ... id put them together ... im so sorry it has not gone well... have you tried another vet???? is the vet you took him too a AVIAN vet which im always saying a reg. DVM has very little training in the bird field about birds??

this has to be really hard on you...you can also try having a vet show you how to for awhile hand feed your bird with a pipette...

Thanks for your support. Yes, it is an AVIAN vet and i was at 2 of them becuase the first vet recommeded me to a second vet. Barney would not take any food or water with a pipette. The only food he is keeping down is what Clover is feeding him. Barney looks so skinny now and the sparkle is gone from his eyes. He makes ittle sounds, but seem to perk up when I put Clover in the cage. I don't keep Clover in the cage with Barney all the time. 30 minutes at a times and now 6-8 times a day. Clover likes when I put her in with Barney, but seems to be OK when I put her back in her own cage. Clover seems to know how what Barney needs better then I do.
*****Please everyone, be very careful on the toys you purchase for your little keets. I re-did both of my keets cages with only rope toys, bells, and safe baby toys like the keys and loop rings, (recommeded by my vet)
******One more important issue, listen to what everyone has told you about a nest egg for possible Vet bills. I am over $1000. with 2 surgeries, medications, visits and my VET has not charged me for everthing he has done. I am not complaining about the money because I will do whatever I need to for Barney. Just letting you know how important it is to save for emergency situations. Thanks .

Hi pinkeynurse,
I'm so sorry Barney is not bouncing back like we hoped he would.
You're a great mom dong all you can possibly do to help the little guy. It's a rarity
For what it's worth I think you are doing exactly the right thing by letting Clover help out.

I might be just reaching here..but have you given any thought to trying simple aloe vera. It really is great stuff for all sorts of things and it couldn't hurt that's for sure.

Here is just one little thing on aloe vera for birds

I'm not talking about the aloe detox, i mean the plain pure aloe gel or spray

sigh its very disheartening for sure ...what are you trying to feed thru a pipette and did the vet show you how to use one to try to feed...or give you some food to use for that?...do you have any PETAMINE that you could use and make it very loose in the pipette and when holding him dont tilt him backwards or have him on his back but place a few drops at a time into the lower front of the beak...be sure to wash his little face with a que tip of warm water when done.

also make sure the water you use in the pipette isnt cold and definetely not hot...better to try just room temperature water...id also be sure to have some petamine in the reg seed cups and let the other bird feed him all he wants.

Update. Barney is doing so much better and even the Vet is surprised. Clover is the real hero. Clover fed Barney for over two weeks. I have them back in separate cages as Barney is now eating on his own. Still not as playful and active as he once was, but eating on his own. Stools are back to normal. Hey guys, thanks for your support. Thought I was going to lose Barney for sure.
PS. Clover has gotten so friendly the past weeks and sits on my hand and shoulder. I also found out that Barney is months older then Clover. Hmm pet plus told me they were both very young in age.

So glad Barney is coming around and doing so well. Aren't animals amazing? They instinctively know how to help and what to do. Salute to Clover!

I have seen horses, dogs and cats do some pretty cool things to help one another. We had twin cats on the farm and one day one cat got trapped in the neighbors barn when he shut the door. The other cat came to our door and pleaded with me to follow. He led me next door in front of the barn where I heard his twin crying. I opened the door and they licked each other's face and followed me back home. Truly amazing.

Keep us posted and God's speed Barney!

Wow pinkeynurse! That is GREAT news! I can't tell you how happy I am for you and Barney.
Three cheers for Clover!!! Maybe you should start calling him Doc. lol
You are very welcome for the aloe tip. IDK if it really helped or not, or if it was Clover's diligence that did the trick but....
I'm just thrilled Barney is doing so much better smile
