Well Buds wings are now fully grown back and im debating weather or not to get them clipped again. The reasons why I want to is because he makes me nervous. He goes under the microwave table and I think he might go under the stove and the refrindgerator and go somewhere where I wont be able to get him out :\ He is so corious about everything!! When im doing the dishes he is on my shoulder for like a second before he decides to jump in! I usually let him out everyday but he is as bad as my kids about getting into things! lol! We love having him out and he loves to be out but like I said he make me nervous...

So I was wondering what would be the best thing to do? Can i make it to where he cant fly up to the celing? (He goes ontop of my cupboards which are up to the celing and there is a little space between the cupboards and the celing he likes to sit and watch us.) Cause he hides and i swear he laughs at me when i try to get him to go back home when i have to leave or somthing... He goes on the cords that plug into the wall and i freak out (i know that they can even stand on the wires outside) but i guess it results from my babies idk...

But i want him to be able to fly cause thats what he is supposed to do... idk im torn frown

here is what i would do- i would try to close all those cracks with pieces of wood, like thin planks or something like that. if thats not possible- i would make one room in my house bird-safe and only let him out there for a while each day. i wouldnt clip his wings. just a bit of work and maybe a small investment could make your living space keet-safe, if you wanna let him loose in the living room and such. it would be more fun for both of you wink

Is there a toy or mirror with a bell that he absolutely loves? If you haven't got him trained to come when you call, you might try using his toy as an enticement to come. Just rattle it, call him and see what he does.

I have him finger trained but once he is out flying i can't get him to come back to me... I'm not sure how to train him to do that.

And yea i have one.. It's his favorite toy! smile I never would have thought about using that

No nooo please don't clip him again! frown Birdies need their flight for protection..and I swear they are more social when they have their flight and can come and go and visit you when they want to.

Keet proof like Siegel suggested and Jeanne's idea of using a fav toy is a good one. smile They love playing with toys WITH you.
When he does finally come to you when you call him be sure to praise him and make a huuuge deal out of it every time he comes to you when called.

If he is on top of his cage or in his cage and you ask him to step up..will he? Try staying back about a foot from him and calling to him..even just a short hop to your hand/finger, of he comes praise him. Then keep going back further and further away from him...
Be sure to call him or use whatever signal you will be using. A whistle a bell...

Yea he hops up with i say up but i still have to rub his belly... then he steps up.. but usually when he comes out i let him come out on his own.. he likes to climb all over his cage. and then he'll fly over to me. but he is finger trained. I didnt know they liked us to play with there toys with them. probably why he acts silly when i ring the bells in his cage? lol

But i'm going to try that today about stepping further back and seeing if he'll come to me.

I've also decided not to clip him smile

It's GOOD that you let him come out on his own when he comes out. That's how it should be smile
Yes they do love playing with toys with you. Try some of those plastic cat ball toys with the bell inside? They love to roll em around and play fetch. You roll or toss a short ways they chase and try to throw it back to you.
Mine loves it when i hold a swing for him to get on and I swing him. Higher mom higher! lol

Another thing to consider is perch training. Have you tried that.. Will he step up on to a hand held perch when he's out?

after the bird has been with you for several months an you have interacted with it ...will it then fly to you...again as with all things ...patience...and some birds like to actually have to flyyyy toooo youuuu so you may also just want to be playing with some sort of noisey toy that the bird likes and just sit across the room...he then should show some interest in flying but not do it right away and it will take time...

Well I tried perch training but when i move it to him he freaks out :\ Even in his cage I tried that first before using my finger but it scared him so bad... and I tried over and over for about a weed with the perch but he about had a heart attack every time poor thing... so I just started using my hand to teach him up.. I'm going to have to invest in some of them cat ball things... he has some in his cage but they hang and there are like 4 attached and he loves them! almost all his toys have bells and he makes so much noise and its so funny!

Illsuive, I've had Bud for about 7 months... how long does it take to fully train them to fly to you? lol

lindsey everything is different with each birds character and how you do what you do to interact with them....you have had him that long and still cant get him to perch train ...how big is your cage please...when cages are too small a hand or perch being shoved in before talking to them for a few minutes can be a threat to them...

i cant emphasise enough about doing all movements around them slowly VERY slowly...and trying something only once or twice or for a week isnt something to be upset about if they are not responding...you also dont immediately advance your hand or perch right up to them...you keep your distance away from them...and each day as they relax and accept the perch or hand being only near them without freaking you would then again...slowly inch your way closer to them...always talking to them first before even opening that door to do anything

and wait till the afternoon giving them some time to wake up and eat and play and just relax and another thing is ...when you do this dont have a audience of people around make it just you and him or he will get very nervous with everyone else being around
