I found this website: http://www.buffaloparrot.com/goodandbadparrotfoods.htm which has an extensive list of foods that are good or bad for birds, but it doesn't mention prunes. Does anyone know if prunes are okay for parakeets? I have some, so I thought I'd share with my feathered friend as long as they are safe for her.

Well, it says plums are okay. But I don't think prunes would be because they have so much sugar in them.

Okay, no prunes for Newton. Maybe I should get her a fig? Lol.

Of course, so far she's only eaten her seed mix (and a bit of millet), nothing fresh. There are currently chopped up grapes and mustard greens in her cage, though.

It supposidly takes awhile for them to get used to eating fresh things. They're scary at first, especially if they came from a pet store where they never ever got things like that. My birdie decided it was okay to peck at some broccoli, but DEFINATELY NOT WHILE I WAS WATCHING HERRRR. lol

Haha. Well, if they only try it out when we're gone, that could be a problem. I'm hardly ever gone. She didn't have any problems eating her usual seed mix in front of me, and she's drunk a bit of water in front of me, too. She nibbled on a bit of mustard greens when I held it out to her, but only a tiny bit.

She did when my back was turned or I was out of the room. She'll probably get used to it pretty soon. At least she's eating things that you're holding! My bird's still too skittish for that.

I think my bird may like mustard greens already, since I saw her eating just now, and her beak was stained dark green! smile I also stuck some carrots in her cage just now, because I'm making some stew and had a tad left over.

I hope she's used to eating fresh food before we move in two months, so I can give her celery, lettuce, and the like to keep her hydrated. Oooo, or maybe some watermelon.
