Did 'liveforchrist' actually call you Satan, MBAS?
I think that might indeed be considered impolite.
But I thought that perhaps she felt that Satan was just speaking to her, through you.
I'm not sure if that should be considered impolite or not.
Probably not, since Christians believe that God and Satan can use different vessels for their messages.

But no, it is not rude to question beliefs on a religious discussion board, as long as it is done politely.

But neither do we want to upset people ~ so we have to judge the situation and choose our vocabulary accordingly, I think.

When 'liveforchrist' is ready for a more probing discussion of faith ~ and after she has re-read the guidelines I posted ~ then she will be most welcome to converse with us again. smile

Indeed! It will be fun then. I'll have my horns sharpened.

And call me Satan, Bob, Fred, Dave, Hey You, whatever. Just don't call me late for dinner.

I've been following this conversation with interest. My assessment is that liveforchrist never called mbas Satan, as PDM mentioned. Being used as a vessel for a message is probably not the same as being "the Prince of Lies." :-)

But I also get the sense mbas is slightly tickled/amused by the idea of it. This is my personal impression, since mbas has been rather lighthearted about the issue.

mbas, not trying to ascribe emotions to you that are incorrect, so I apologize if indeed you do feel offended instead of amused.

liveforchrist, we are all welcome to comment on any thread here - none are 'just for Christians' or just for Jews or just for Buddhists. Our rules, as PDM helpfully reposted here, are that we do not use insulting language, and that we are civil and respectful of each other while we debate issues.

Along these lines mbas has been civil to you. He has pushed you and asked probing questions, but that is what happens here, as a board section devoted to religious research and study.

Your initial question is certainly interesting: "Why, do you believe that God created us? I'd like to here your belief"

I think Niki and PDM have certainly delved into positive discussions with you along those lines, and perhaps you would enjoy 'rebooting' and re-reading those posts so we can stay on topic. Or if you would prefer to find a supportive Christian forum those are most certainly out there. :-)

So return to the original question about WHY we were created...well. For me that leads me to ask WHY there is a universe at all? Where did the matter and energy come from at all to kickstart the Big Bang? I absolutely have no answer for that. How can there be nothing and then something? It almost makes me believe in a Creator just in order to find some sense in it.

Unfortunately I have no faith in a God as presented in the Old and New Testaments. That God seems capricious, which is a human trait. So to me it all seems made up. Made up by humans and in particular a select group of humans..and then translated and retranslated to the point of confusion.

You asked for our thoughts on why we were created. Possibly for the universe itself to become self aware? Possibly the random action of subatomic particles? Possibly a Creator was in the mood to be creative? These are questions that arise for me.

I NEVER want to leave it's place and I want to be a Christian all my life. I have a feeling I will always. God wouldn't just do that to me, unless I chose it.

Well then, I'm glad. If that is what you wish, and that is what makes you happy, than terrific! Just know that in this forum section, we question and push and research. So you may wish to find more Christian forums if support is what you are looking for.

I came on to these forums when I was a Chrsitian looking for truth. I found my truth, though I'm ot convinced I know it yet! I've found at least a position for truth. You're coming here with a wish to never leave Christianity. Which is fine! You are entitled to that. For may of us, our drive is not to stay in our current set of beliefs, it is to find what is more true, what is more valid, or at least to discuss the data and research in order to make conclusions. This does not seem to be your drive, which again, is fine! Just not conducive to this atmosphere.

I'm the concept of heaven gives you so much peace. May it continue to do so! Many of us here do not believe in your heaven, yet still find peace. But if you find purpose and a drive in yours, then more power to you! You change and effect your world the best that you can. If detracting you from your faith causes you harm and takes away from your potential, then we have no right to try to do so. At least for me, I want everyone to be the best human they can. If that necessitates religious belief, than so be it!

Hope you find the answers or things that you are looking for. smile

My question was my question. "Why do you belive God created us?"
This question was meant for christians, for I wanted to talk to other believers. I didn't intend this topic to go anywhere else. So IF I ask why "GOD" created the earth, than I hope to get answers that come from those who believe God created the earth. It's as simple as that. I hope you understand.
As being a beginner member, AGAIN I say, I didn't know how to put this topic where it belonged. So that's why this is so complicated now.

Well, I am not a Christian, I am a believer, so maybe I'll do.

I will try to answer Nicolettes original question, bearing in mind that it IS/DOES always come to be a circular thing. Why do I believe God created us?

Why not? Since none can be proven, one theory is as good as another. Why not God?, since someone, something, DID create us and our world? The fact that we do not know anything provable about it seems to not sway me. If the answer is evolution then that came from God. If it's created, that came from God. In my opinion, it all comes from God. We DO have proof about evolution the primates and such, so if I had to choose, I'd go with that.

The reason I believe he created us is because that theory makes sense to me. I am familiar with that, having read and heard about it my whole life. The fact that the bible cannot be proven does not seem to sway me either. I could bre wron, but the Bible is really the ONLY (seemingly) (albeit possibly tainted) account of the world being created?

There MUST be other members on here who are believers. If not, then are we only Atheists and Agnostics? If there ARE believers on here, I wonder why they do not post in this forum?

i am posting because I believe a fellow believer needs some backing up! I didn't want to leave Nicolette "out there" in her corner.

In my opinion, it looked to me like she was baited and cornered, till she broke and got rude. It looked like she was being persecuted for her faith. No one accepted that she only asked one question here. She was talked down to and with disdain.

Do we really HATE all Christians on this forum?

PDM: This is still the topic I made about WHY GOD created us. So if you want to talk about IF GOD is real, than please go make your own board. I would really appreciate.

Mbas, I apoligize if you took my "satan talking through you" the wrong way. I wasn't calling you Satan. NEVER would I do that. Again, I am sorry about that.

liveforchrist, I do GET that. :-) You've stated that clearly in many posts. My point is that there isn't any chance to return to your intent since that is not what this board is about. I am not clear why you are still wanting to discuss this with us, then?

Of course you are welcome to stay on here, but you will need to accept where the discussion goes, if so. That is wonderful that you are exploring your love and devotion to Christ!

I hope we can all have a fruitful discussion in spite of different points of view. I think my questions are valid and I would love to hear what anyone thinks of my thoughts. I am a seeker and certainly *open* to being convinced of God. It is just something that is not a natural inclination for me. :-)

Tweetymom, thank you for taking what i posted about the "nothing to something" and running with it. That is a huge sticking point for me and I am excited to see i am not alone in that confusion. Something started somewhere, for some reason. Science and God could easily be the same thing.
