I am telling you this with my heart breaking. This morning Buttercup flew away. It was a complete accident. Steve and I were trying to do what was right for him when the cage fell broke into pieces and he took flight.

Put the cage back together and leave it where buttercup can see it. He may come back to it. Be sure to leave his favorite treat and food in the cage.

Jeanie I'm so sorry! you must be beside yourself.

There HAVE been members who have told of their birds finding their way back home, so I wouldn't give up hope.

I'm assuming you have put the cage back together and put it outside? He will be looking for food and safety. I pray he comes home to you!

Oh no Jeanne, I'm soo sorry.
Any sightings of him yet???
Like everyone else is saying..set up his cage outside with his favs. Keep calling him. I'm SURE he knows your voice very well, so maybe make a recording of it so you can play it over and over? I'm pretty sure you can't be right there calling him every minute so maybe a recording??
Alert all your neighbors and have them pass it on to their friends. Putting up lost posters might help too....afterall, look how many keets have been found by others lately!!
I hope with all my heart you get him back safe and sound. Can't imagine the heartbreak and worry you're going thru frown
Call animal shelters and vets in your area? Ya never know.

I wish I had neighbors to help me out here. We live in the country with nothing but trees and fields all around. Still I have not given up hope. I was just so angry and frustrated and hurt yesterday I couldn't really explain what happened.

I woke up with the exterminator coming into my house. Steve had let him in, which was fine, but I was trying to yank my clothes on. Steve asked where to go with Buttercup. I was in a hurry (when all things go bad) and said, "Just put him out in the car. He won't like it, but too bad." Steve said it was beautiful outside, he'll set him out in the yard. Well, ok. He was fastened up tight and Steve had brought out his stand. Now his stand is a tall pole type, not a tabletop. I went out to check on him. It was 70 degrees and a very small breeze. Still I put his cover over half of him just to keep him in mostly shade. It wasn't a few minutes later that I heard the crash, looked up and saw the mess on the ground and BC gliding to the trees. Of course I called, like that would help. On a day like yesterday, even the shyest, most scaredy cat bird was going on a field day.

The cage was tied back together the best I could. I walked the woods with our megaphone and cage calling and giving out the phrases he loves so well. I put his Happy Budgies CD on out on one of the back porches with the volume up. I've left the cage out every since. Steve even put the CD on to run all night long so maybe early morning it would call to him. Steve feels SO badly. He keeps thinking that if he had just put him in the car, he would have been fine. Well, second guessing is always the best decision, but he just wanted BC to be more comfortable and enjoy the outdoors. We couldn't let him stay indoors ANYWHERE with the bug spray job going on. I probably hurt the situation by placing his cover halfway on. It more likely caught the breeze.
