To all those that know the loss of a beloved budgie: My Precious baby had to euthanized this morning at 9:00 Am. My original post was for the surgery for a four year old budgie. That's my post- Joni. I brought Baby to Cornell Vet Hospital last night at 9PM. We left the house at 5PM and the person driving me got lost. We were four hours in a car with a sick budgie. It was supposed to be a two hour drive. She seemed fine and chirping (but tired). Her surgery was scheduled for first thing this morning. I got a call at 7:15 AM telling me that she was bleeding through her nose and have a hard time breathing. She was on oxygen and trying to recover her breathing. Her surgeon called me at 8:20 AM and told me it didn't look good. She was still having a hard time breathing, and the blood did stop, however, she couldn't survive surgery. He gave her a 1% chance of survival. He told me due to her condition, it was best to euthanize her. I died inside. I sobbed so uncontrollably. I didn't want her to suffer any longer. I gave the go ahead at 8:50 AM, March, 25, 2010. I loved this bird with all the heart and soul. I can still smell her!! I did get to hold her close to me for the four hour car ride. I don't know what to do except cry. I am at work, but I don't know how much longer I can stay. BTW, her sister Blossom doesn't have any idea that Baby isn't coming home. I love her so much and I am grieving the loss of my Baby! Thanks for listening. Joni

Oh, Joni, I am so sorry to hear about Baby. All you can do is cry and grieve for her. It's not easy to loose a bird that you have bonded to. We had to put our little Ogie down about 1 month ago and yesterday I printed out a picture of him and started crying all over again. It is not an easy decision to make, but know that you did the right thing, Baby was suffering so. Those last few hours you had with her were precious and I know soothing for her. Hugs to you!

Oh Joni, I am so so sorry frown
I and probably many others were so very hopeful that the surgery planned would go well. And to find out she didn't get that chance.....I don't even know what to say. Tears are rolling down my face just thinking of the pain you are feeling. You must be overwhelmed with grief.
Know that even tho you are feeling such grief and sorrow over her, that SHE is in a better place. Free from pain and suffering.
She is flying amongst the angels and will ALWAYS be a part of you. Baby was so very special and yes..a Miracle bird in her own right.
You made the hard choice and the RIGHT choice setting her free.I believe it is the ultimate love to be able to let go for their sake rather than to hold on for ours.
((((hugs)))) to you Joni.
Rest in peace lil Baby^ Fly free

You DID make the right choice...and medical help was right there. Blossom will aid and comfort you...for the transition to be easier for Blossom its important as hard as it maybe to remove if you can things of Babys.

Baby soars on wings of love. She will always be watching and not far away. For what it maybe worth..she had the best with you..and was NOT a unfortunate lil one in someones hands who were abusive or negligent. Her life was FULL of love an caring. You did the very best for her which she deserved and now Blossom will fill your heart and you will learn to comfort each other and grow a bond even stronger.

I'm terribly sorry. Isn't it just awful to go through all that work to save a loved one and they won't make it. Baby seemed like a nice bird. She may rest in peace with you. She's your angel watching over you.

I cried when I read this.
((hugs)) to you and your poor, sweet baby.
Fly free, little baby. Fly around with all your comforts in heaven, and wait for your owner up there.

I'm so sorry. You were so brave making the decision for the surgery...what a horrible thing to get that call.

Take comfort in knowing you did all that could possibly be done to save your baby.

Fly free little one!
