So i am at school at hyped from music class singing "Seasons of love" and my brother calls (ring ring) and i pick up my phone told him i was in school and it was in emergency. We had two budgies the male which was my favorite was very careful with new "mate" and his newborn. Then you have the reckless female who had everything done for her. But to keep the story short my mother had woken up this morning taken off the blanket from the cage and has a unpleasant surprise. The male budgie (father) was on the ground bleeding with no feathers on his head and an eye missing. this hurt my heart i think i cant see her like i saw her before. What may have caused this? *note the baby keets are about 20 days old.

I'm so sorry. I've read of this happening occasionally. The op should be moved to either General Chat or Breeding sections where hopefully someone with more insight into what goes on with keeter parents will see the message.

Again, my most sincere condolences.

Kathy

Again I'm so sorry. I was looking into this issue via google and found this reference. On occasion this happens. Our precious babies are still wild birds. I bet hormones and babies had something to do with it.

Please find a way to forgive your keet. It was only instinct.

I shouldn't have read this, but maybe I should have. I don't know. I am worried now. : /

I have three new arrivals. I am going to introduce them to my other keet individually, but...I don't want any killing! Is there a way I can prevent this? 8 / Can I even prevent it?

i don't know much..but

i don't think there is much way to prevent this you can't keep birds away from eachother for 1 or 2 just cause they might hirt innocent Jazz. from what i hear it is almost a chance you take!

it's like any animal the dogs (if you got 2)new to eachother might fight till blood....it's any animals instinct, how male Crocodiles,Birds,Giraffes,Lions,Gorilla's and more, all fight for the female...you can't prevent that unless you take them away from eachother for a while, which is kinda hard for bouncy Baby's who want to roam the House!

if anybody thought i said it wrong please correct me..it's hard to get whats on my mind!

I will move this thread to Breeding...I am sorry about your poor little boy! At least he is alive and reasonably okay? I agree with what people are saying - these birds are 'tame' only to the extent their wild genes and hormones let them be.

Dinah - it means that the person who posted was only posting advertisment and not a real participant in the forum. It is usually a link to something - sometimes having to do with budgies but usually not.
