I didnt know that budgies could bite so hard!

I was playing with Anakin today, when the fire alarm in my building went off.

Now, Anakin is a very gentle, and friendly little dude, has been since the day I brought him home at 5 weeks!

I figure he was startled, and bit the closest thing to him out of fear (my finger)

Unfortunately, he bit right on the side of my thumb, where the skin meets the nail, and got ahold of that little piece of me. His little hooked beak, sank into the skin and actually broke the skin

Sheesh...I didnt think they bit that hard, Ive been bitten before, but never quite like that, and Ive been bitten by the meanest of budgies, lol.

Amazing what any of us are capable of when we are scared out of our wits.

ps. you know that bit spot is going to be sore for a long time

I put my hand over him, so he wouldnt fly off, that might have made him feel preyed on...I suppose my own fault, but I didnt want him flying off into something in a panic.

My little Dicky is still biting since Ogie's passing, but has calmed down a liitle. I was able to get him to come out of his cage on Saturday and he sat on my shoulder for a while. I was talking to him softly when WHACK, he bit my lip and drew blood. Still sore today - yes the litter bugger can find the softest places on my hand and hold on tight.

I think animals grieve in individual ways just like humans. My mom appears to be grumpy when she's grieving whereas I retreat into the dark and want to just stare. As individual as keets are....and other animals as well....I don't think it's a stretch to assume some will grieve "angrily" while others will just vegitate.

The first parakeet I had never actually bit me, he sort of nibbled. Once he passed I got another (and had it in my mind that parakeets didn't bite hard, based on experience with my previous). Sadly, this one I got was a biter, and he bit me right on the side of my thumb where the nail meets the skin.

you shouldnt be holding or grabbing them this is a defense ..never except at vets for exams grab or hold your bird they dont like it much and it restricts their breathing which causes them to panic and bite...so if this is what your doing...you should stop
