I imagine part of it in the US is that except for the Native Americans we are all "from somewhere else". So certainly I know Native Americans who say with great pride that they are part of the Navajo tribe and have been on their lands for hundreds of years. But for most other people I know, it is more along the lines of "I was born in New York, but my parents were both born in Italy".

heheh... well, i was born in krefeld, germany, my moms dad came from karlovy vary in the sudetenland, her mum was from the rhineland. my dads dad was from westfalia, his mum was polish and beyond that the family fizzles out into transylvania and siberia. my passport is british, my loyalties are cornish and irish, and i would loosely describe myself as being human.

not that any of the above should mean anything to anyone anywhere.

Very interesting discussion, and you impress me with your knowledge, Jan. I have long been aware that the subject is quite complicated - in fact, too complicated for me to have an educated opinion.

I wish that we all could be described as human, and could find a way to live together without fighting.

But I guess the "have-but-want-much-more" people will always be in power over the "have-not" people.

Israel is filled to the brim with masonic symbols. Their supreme court and capital buildings were completely funded by the Rothchilds.

The Rothchilds provided all of the funding to create the "new state" of Israel in 1949. Tens of thousands of Palestinians have been killed since 1949 after the Rothchilds started the genocide which still continues today.

In my opinion, the modern day state of Israel is nothing but a huge cumulative war criminal that has no rights to the land. They have as much rights to this land as the United States does to Native American land. It is basically the same thing, both planned out in advance by the Rothchilds and other banking families to take whatever they want and to ravage the population though genocide.

As far as the question goes, only a moron would conclude the Isralies that moved in back in 1949 would have more roots to the ancient Israelites than modern day Palestinians. The first Israelites were black and brown in skin color, the same color as the Palestinians.

it looks like quite a simple situation to me - land theft justified with invented folk myths. the same trick has been pulkled time and time again throughout human history. most notably by the israelis, the germans, the british and european settlers in america.

I agree that there are all sorts of very questionable land acquisitions that have happened over time, for example the way the Native Americans lost many of their lands in the US.

The challenge is how to find an equitable solution, now that we are in this situation.

Also Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and most of California belonged to Mexico. Apparently we gave them back Baja, California. Which i see as a good thing. There is not enough water there to support the American development we would have applied to this massive coastline.

That's a very good point Jilly. Although I imagine Mexico was taken, by the Spanish, from the Native Americans there. And heck the Louisiana Purchase was us buying land second hand that belonged to the Native Americans. So in many cases there was a "first buyer".

dan and I often talk about land on the moon and mars, and also the geosynchronous orbits. Will it be another manifest destiny? A race for the good spots? Or will we all sit down and dole things out in committee?

I think it's always been a case that those who could afford to go somewhere went there - and those who couldn't afford to go somewhere got left behind. Back when Spain and England were colonizing the Americas, there weren't central Africans out competing with them to take over land. They didn't have enough money or technology to do that. So as we go to Mars, for example, it will be the US and Europe and so on who start setting up bases - but I doubt that Ethiopia for example will be working on that project. They have more pressing concerns.
