Yet they would think me looney or suffering from the effects of alcohol or drugs when I talk about a visit from an angel, or about the feelings of being "led" by God.

On the one hand, they accept as authoritative words on paper because the "church" has authenticated it. And yet, they deny that others can receive "revelations."

Sounds kind of like the Christian church wants to monopolize God, doesn't it?

I'm in full agreement with all you say here. According to Neale Donald Walsch in his book "The New Revelations," "God has NEVER stopped communicating directly with human beings. God has been communicating with and through human beings from the beginning of time. God does so today.
Every human being is as special as every other human being who has ever lived, lives now, or ever will live. YOU ARE ALL MESSENGERS. EVERYONE of you. You are carrying a message to life about life every day. Every hour. Every moment."

Yep, we are in agreement. I do think that we are all messengers, and all connected, and that God is especially fond of each of us (as is said in The Shack).

Sometimes I think that there's more truth than we know in Heinlein's A Stranger in a Strange Land.

Carl, thanks for your positive comments. I was very pleasantly surprised to see your reference to "A Stranger in a Strange Land," one of my favorite novels of all time. Robert Heinlein's spiritual concepts were ahead of their time, and more in tune with the true nature of God and Life. In "Stranger in a Strange Land, a Martian establishes a new form of Spirituality based on the concept of Group marriage (Polyfidelity, Polygamy, Polyamory). And Heinlein continues the same basic theme in other novels such as "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" and "Time Enough For Love." In the former, "line marriage" is an integral part of Lunar society. This is a form of Group marriage (Polygamy, Polyamory) in which, if one of the wives or husbands dies, that wife or husband is quickly replaced by a new marriage partner. In that way, the family lineage can never die out.

Good to have you posting, M. Yes, I've long been a fan of scifi - as a young boy, I found the scifi early. Door into Summer is a favorite, also, and Glory Road, and Starship Troopers. Also the one where they go into a bomb shelter.

GROK you, too, MBAS. There may well BE a cloud of ancestor spirits around our planet (if it's not too polluted and crowded with our space junk).

One thing of note: it doesn't pay to be too good or too sensitive - people want to kill you.

PDM, I truly like the various philosophical stretching that Heinlein introduced into his novels. In Stranger in a Strange Land, the hero, Michael, was connected to the cloud of ancestors which encircled Mars. And he had a spiritual force which drew people to him. In addition, he focused his entire attention, seemingly on the one he talked with. So he was charismatic, and people thronged toward him.

There was a ceremony which had symbolic meaning to him. The sharing of water - since Mars had very little - meant that you shared your life forces. And since everyone was a part of what God is/was, all of us/them were God, including him, the people around, and the ancestors who still encircled the planet (and other planets where there was life?).

So to Grok someone - literally share water with them, was to give and receive of each other without reservation. Friendship to the ultimate.

Now, I'm saying this from memory, and I'm 66. And it's been a long while since I read the novel.

Therefore, my analysis may be off, and my memory may be off.

Perhaps Mystical - was it Mystical 12? - can help us out.

But I'm sure if you do an internet search on Heinlein, A Stranger in a Strange Land, there would be a lot to read.

Now, i must admit that when I said I GROK you, I did not pledge ultimate friendship, but I am showing a respect for a connection. I like it when we have connections in this life.

I have come to realize, arguing about supernatural higher powers such as God on the internet is completly futile. It is a broken record that can not be fixed. You either believe in God or you don't. There is no reason to argue about it, debate it, mock it, or define it. It is an endless debate of "you are wrong because i'm right" end of story. You are not going to win any converts on the internet to atheism or belief in God.

Why this is debated so much boggles my mind. The only other thought why God is debated so much between atheists and believers is to keep a constant flame war stoked.

As far as i'm concerned there is nothing more to debate. Why Christains do this and that, the problem with Christ, the problem with religion, why atheists believe there is no God. It's all futile. No argument is going to change anyones belief. If God himself appeard to humanity it wouldn't change Atheists belief there is no God. If it were discovered scientifically that there couldn't possibly be a God it wouldn't Change relgions belief.

It's all a waste of time and energy to debate this.
