Hey parakeet owners! smile
I read a website for a parakeet training system, and it says " Stop The Messy Poops... Can't stop mother nature, but you can get your bird to aim better and become potty trained!"
It's all in this link:
http://www.parrotsecrets.com/Parakeet/in...CFSIuagodfmuJYg

It's supposed to be some really good training system for your pet parakeet. I was just wondering if any of you parakeet owners got your bird potty-trained. It's just kinda messy sometimes when your keet is out. You always need to have tissue at hand and all over the place.

So if it IS possible to potty train your parakeet, and you know how, can you give me a link or your own instructions on how to do this???
Thanks anyhow. smile

Yes you can potty train them.
Mine responds to poo poo, but you have to take them to a potty safe place every 15-20 minutes or accidents can happen. She usually goes on her playgym or me if I don't get her back to her cage (but that is ok-I have what I call a poop shirt she can go on).
I used clicker training/positive reinforcement techniques from the book Getting Started Clicker Training For Birds by Melinda Johnson.

I might have to give this a shot! My little guys and gals seem to just adore pooping on shoulders LOL.

Oh, so parakeets go to the bathroom every 15-20 minutes?

I heard that you should time when they poop and then when that time comes again, you hold them above a tissue (or wherever you desire) and say "poo" or whatever word you wish to use.
After a while of repeating this each time they have to go, they will begin to understand what you want and they'll understand what the word you use means.
Is that how you trained yours?
