hey not sure if you all remember i was at petco and i saw a bird with a twitchy damaged wing and told the manager. he sent it to the vets. anyhow, i was back a week and half later and they put him back that day i was there! he was still twitchy and has permanent damage, and he was just the icing on my cake!
anyhow they gave him to me for free cause they knew they wouldn't sell him, anyhow he is now the king of his cage, i had to seperate jack and sally due to jack not liking him at all, but toastie is the funniest little twitchy guy ever. he gets around great, he stretches his wings out, he plays and he has a mate! anyhow the saddest was when he tried to fly and dropped like a stone. i felt horrible but i have padding all over or him. his wings are not growing??? DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW LONG IT TAKES FOR WINGS TO GROW OUT???
anyhow, he is happy happy and so glad i said yes to this cobalt blue english budgie with a twitch.

ps. anyone know if he wants to breed if he will have deformed babies or do you think that he was hurt in shipping or being a runt at petco???? thoughts?
thanks

Aww sounds like Toastie is a happy camper smile
You say his wing is damaged? How so? If it is damaged will he be able to use it when his flight feathers grow back? Or will you not know until he does grow his flights back and go from there?
His flights should grow back in a month or 2 I think. At least that's how long it took for my guys smile
Sorry, no idea about producing deformed babies. guess that would depend on what caused his deformity in the first place.Whether it was genetics or whether he was hurt during shipping or by other birds at petco picking on him.

That's wonderful that you took him!! I know he'll have a wonderful life with you and your fids smile

His wing feathers will grow back at the time of his next big molt. Jaspers took a little while and I was so afraid of him breaking them when he only had a few (especially when he had 1 on each wing!
)He stayed in the cage alot during that time, lol.

Do you have any idea how old he is? Would love to see some pics of him smile

Budgie are shipped in wide flat boxes about a 1/2metre x 1/2 metre, and pulled out by a hole in the top (often with leather gloves) and put into the cages.

There are 50 budgies to a box.

This is how they were shipped at the store I worked at, so it is likely it was damaged during travel.

I know. Awful. The hamsters were worse though. At least the budgies arent cannibals.

i just want to say that he is a lucky bird to have found you to care for him. he sounds like a really special little guy.

As mentioned above the flight feathers will grow back when he has a good molt. That varies for each bird so it's hard to say just how long that should be. Before thinking about letting him breed I would have a vet give him a good once over and explain exactly what his disabilities are and WHY--are the genetic or environmental? I think I personally would avoid any possibility of him breeding until you have talked extensively to a vet.
