I put the baby tiels in their new cage. They seem to be a little stressed over being without their parents. They can perch, eat and drink on thier own. But in the new cage they are panting a little and wont stay on the perch. They only sit on the bottom.

I dont want them to be stressed for too long, how much time should I give them? Ive just never seen them pant before.

what made you wanna separate them to begin with?

my first two parakeets acted like that when i first got them. they were just at the bottom of the cage. i think its normal. maybe you should try and have the cages close together so they can see their parents.

how old are they ? you should post pix. i love pix of babies.

The cage the parent are in is just not big enough for all five birds. And since the babies are doing everything by themselves now, I thought it was time to seperate them. Also, the parents are not hand trained, and I would like to work with the babies and hand train them. Thay are doing much better today. Still at the bottom but have been moving around on the lower perches.

I have some pictures posted in the breeding section. They are cockatiels so I didnt post pictures here but here they are. they are so cute.

Good to hear the babies are starting to get used to being on their own. They are just sooo cute!
Good luck with the hand training, and I think it will be easier if they are separate from parents too if they are old enough since mom & dad aren't hand trained smile

Well thank the Universe for small favors!! My heart was hurting for those babies without their parents!! It's good to hear that they are better today.

I'm sure that you know what you are doing! I am just a grama, and would like to give babies whatever they want as long as it does not hurt them or anyone! But I know that the parents (you) know best. Now I'm gonna look at the pics you put on the photo gallery.

They are soooo cute.

I put the babies back with their parents today. I was watching them closely and didnt like the fact that I didnt see them at the water bowl and I wasnt having to refill the food bowls. They were eating but when we picked them up they seemed a little thin. I know I wanted to hand train them but right now its more important that they are healthy. There cage now is too small, so Im going on Friday to get them a bigger one. That way they can all be together for a little while longer. When they are older and I can tell what sex they are I will divide everyone one up into male cages and female cages...no more babies!
