Hi everyone! I haven't been on in a while, but I need some help ASAP (Helwa or Val, I know you guys can help with this!!!) A few days ago Nova flew into the wall and really hur her head....all of her feathers on the one side fell off and she was cut. I took her to the vet right away and they checked her out and gave me some medicine for her....she is just now getting better and some of her feathers are growing back. Not sure if that matters or not...
This morning when I woke up, I went to check on her and she is covered in blood spray. There is a lot of blood under her wings. She is fluffy and grumpy with me (usually very sweet). One of the other burds also has blood on his face and chest, but only a bit and it looks kindof like it was sprayed on him from Nova....so I'm thinking theres a broken blood feather or two under her wings and she had a night fright and flapped around and broke them, spraying blood everywhere.
I'm supposed to be at work right now....but I can't just leave her like this!!!1 I know you canremove the broken blood feathers, but I don't know how, or if I should even attempt it. But I just spent a ton at the vet two weeks ago!!!! So can someone tell me how to remove the broken blood feathers or should I just take her to the vet and put in on my credit card?!
Thanks guys!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I know the basic idea...but I've never done it. And my boyfriend is at work (he's the bird whisperer around here) and I just don't feel confortable pulling them out myself, especially without someone to hold her while I do it.
So I was able to get her to stay still for a minute and it looks like she broke off several feathers on the top of her right wing...not sure how many blood feathers but I'm taking her to the vet anyway....I can't pull them out myself and I can't leave her like this.
Man, no one ever told me that I would love my birds like they were my kids. LOL.
I'll update you guys when I get back from the vet.

GAH!!! The vets are being so annoying!!!1 The emergency place doesn't have a bird specialist on call, and the regular vet can't see her until 3:30....I don't want to leave her alone all day, and that would mean missing a whole day of work.
Still on the phone trying to find someone to see her

OK I made her an appointment for 12...in Chadwell (about an hour away)...now I have to just watch her to make sure she doesn't start bleeding or anything. Poor baby.

Oh wow Amaggiepie. Wish i could help but I've never pulled a blood feather myself either. Sounds like too many to try to do yourself anyway tho so I'm glad you got a vet appt. If they start bleeding again I think you could probably put flour or cornstarch on the tip of the feather to help it clot until you can get to the vet? Maybe someone else knows for sure if you can do that? Anyone? Good luck. Poor baby And yes they sure do come to mean ALOT don't they?

Well I'm back. The vet pulled 2 bloodfeathers, one from each wing. He busted the feathers off both the tips of his wings...poor baby. Mustve been quite a night fright. KK, is good to *see* you! and, you got another bird! Wow, he's GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!

It was good to see you back too. Where ya been? Glad to see Nova's ok. One from each wing huh? Ouch! And yup, seems I was exposed to a bit of the "budgie fever" a while back and just couldn't help myself! LOL I got him the end of April. He's my little wild man Lots of new additions around here lately. That budgie fever ran rampant for a while! haha Gonna stick around for a bit?

Yeah, I've really missed everyone! I guess I should post on the general board with an update on the boys...I'll probably do that when I get home from work....
