yea you read that right lol

there is a lady that came into work today wanting to surrender about 46 birds, mostly various parrots. 22 doves and 5 fan tails pigeons and few finches.

we dont reallty take birds at work because we dont have the staff and proper care ability, plus we are operating out of fema trailors HAHA so we have very very limited space.

(due to the shelter burning down, trying to raise money to re build)

so they are having me do this off site, which is fine but a TON of work. Thankfully i have an avian vet that is willing to do well bird exams on them all for free and give them all a certificate of health and if they arnet healthy will do what she can to get them healthy. THANK GOODNESS for that lol

the lady is a rather old lady and knows all the birds will outlive her and she knows she needs to rehome them, she is too old to really care for them and keep them clean, though she has honestly done a pretty darn good job, considering.

she admitted that she does hit the larger birds on the head when they "disobey" and unfortunately she felt the need to show me how she does it, and i nearly ripped her arms off her body and did something ungodly with them lol

she had pet birds of her own, and people over the years kept giving her their birds they didnt want anymore. and she ended up with a crazy amount of birds.

i have parrot rescues that are taking alot of them and whats left i will have to find either forever homes for a foster homes for, some i can take but i have an apartment not a house lol

i went and cleaned some for her today, the cages and will go back tomorrow to finish documenting what she has, exact numbers and age/sex/species of the birds.

she truly does care for the birds and hates to see them go but knows its for the best.

if anyone lives close to north florida and would like to either foster or adopt one or some of the birds please contact me (message me here is fine) I will be making sure you are truly capable of caring for the bird, so no snake food, no neglected birds.

many of them have behavior problems and have been abused and neglected, and have lost owners more than once and this is very stressful, specially on the larger birds.

my count so far is that she has

22 doves
5 fantailed pigeons
3 retired racing pigeons not sure exactly what kind yet
19 cockatiels
9 parakeets
4 macaws one of which is her own pet and she wants to keep but isnt sure yet
5 cockatoos
4 amazons
2 african greys

and various uncounted smaller birds like parrotlets, linnies, lovies and some finches.

its so crazy in that house, the dog kennels at work are quieter LOOL

ZooKeeper she more pets than you:P,,, Good luck helwa, I wish i could have 2 parrots those african greys are beautiful, but sadly i can't:( live to far, try something like craiglist or ask to puts ads up in paper or something, usually shelters charge a small fee i reccomend doing that for the parrots to cover your cost,

yes the shelter i work at burned down 2 yrs ago, we lost about 150 animals, i didnt work there then. very sad event indeed.

just came home from the bird house lol the lady is so funny, an old parrot lady, you can imagine.

and those birds run her house, she has no control what so ever LOL just parrot jungle.

malibu, a scarlet macaw, is HILARIOUS, but very dangerous, he is mean to anyone but her, and even to her sometimes. he talks up a storm and no cage can hold him lol .. he is a master escape artist, i sat and watched him pick his food bowl out of the hook, reach his tongue around and unlock the door that holds the food dish and literally squeeze his macaw size body out that tiny hole LMAO then jump to the floor and chase us around, he ripped the bottom of my scrub pants and put a big hole in my friends jeans and even into the top of her shoes haha he is something else and fiercly jealous of anyone who gets attention over him.

the amazons are just funny, fiercly independant and she would tell them to go back to the cage and they would literally all together scream in her face LMAO then laugh haha

a cockatoo names taz, omg, funniest bird i have ever seen. we were in the living room talking, he was in his cage at the back of the house and all of a sudden i look over and see this cockatoo swinging from the cieling fan

he had removed the locking pin from his door locks, all 3 of them, and got out, we never did find the pins LOL

i nearly wet myself laughing!!!!!! she was like oh honey you cant control them, they are all beasts!!! HAHA

taz came down and sat on my arm for over a hour and talked to me and laughed, he can mimic my exact laugh, it sounded exactly like me. he says hello alot, and dances and flexes his crest for you. loooves to be pet under his wings and will roar like a lion while flexing all his feathers in his crest, he is an umbrella cockatoo so its a big crest lol

and the roar is too funny, so loud and so strong. then i was like ok i am gona take pictures now of each bird to start a file on them all and taz says "picture time" lmao then i was taking his picture and he says "i like your camera" clear as day, and totally unprovoked and no one has said the word camera LOL he took it in his foot and was inspecting it and handed it back to me!!!!!!

then i was talking about what his diet is and what it should be and he said " i like fresh fruit" LMAO i was like oh ok ill write that down and he says "write"

like why ask the human, taz can speak for himself !!!!!!!

one of the amazons says " come on girls" "cage time" "shut up birds" and if malibu goes to their cage they all 3 scream MALIBU

LMAO he goes over to bite their feet so they hate him, all 3 amazons are girls and they are soo funny.

the keets, tiels and doves all live together in a huge aviary she built onto the side of her house. its really nice just needs a good cleaning, and i did some cleaning but it needs more.

i have got the bird birds into rescues and only tiels, keets and doves are left, and the pigeons. the doves and pigeons will go to a wildlife sancuary soon. the tiels and keets are all for adoption. one of the dove pairs has 6 eggs and 2 babies smile so i have a foster home lined up for them so the babies can get some hand feeding.

so i did alot of work today lol she is keeping taz the cockatoo and malibu the macaw, she loves and they are her pets, but thats all she is keeping. and i will be in constant contact with her and will be at her house every sunday afternoon to deep clean the cages and check the birds health and so on.

wheew!

Hello Helwa, Just had to write to tell you how much I enjoyed your descriptions of the birds you are caring for.
Taz sounds wonderful and highly intelligent. I would love to
see him in person but I too live too far away (western New York)

Sounds like you're doing a wonderful job. These birds are
fortunate they came in contact with someone as caring as you.
