I'm planning on switching Lucky over from seed to pellets. I've heard that Harrison's is the best brand. What type of Harrison's pellets are best for parakeets?

I think Harrison's super fine is probably the best for parakeets. They're really tiny pellets and they don't make that much of a mess.

Are you switching to completely pellets? I think there's alot of controversy about an all pellet diet. Some think more pellet than seed is better for them and others don't. Personally I think they need seed in their diet and I think all pellet diet is too much protein. And lots of veggies of course. smile I've yet to see mine take even a nibble of any kind of fruit though frown

Thanks! I'll keep some seed in his diet too. Lucky already loves veggies too.

The Harrison's to pick for parakeets is the High Potency Super Fine for the first six months, then the Regular Super Fine after that. There is another brand my Hedwig seems to like, Roudybush and the smallest size is the 'Nibbles' or the 'Crumble' works too. The nice thing about Roudybush is they sell little mini packs for like two dollars so you can see if your bird takes to it or not.

a well balance meal consists of 50 to 60% pellets and the rest made of seeds, fresh fruits and veggies.so say the avain vets.which are the top of the field when it comes to bird care.most birds don't like them and you might have to start them off with a little and then begin to give them more and more pellets until their eating more pellets then seeds.not trying to scare anyone but the truth is we've had members birds die from just seeds or improper diets.

i know pellets are supposed to be good. they just look so cold and impersonal. my keets are used to nice warm homecooked meals along with there millet and seem to thrive on the love i mix in.
