I was at Petco yesterday, looking at pellet foods (i've learned soo much from all of you!). One brand I was looking at, ALL the bags were dated Mar 08!!!!! So please, be sure you check everytime you buy something.

Needless to say, I bought a different brand!

And of course....a toy...a couple treat dishes...treat clips...and another toy!!

Wow, that's terrible (most people wouldn't check). Did you tell the manager or someone?

Also (not sure if this needs a seperate post), I'm having a very hard time finding bird pellets at the petstores. The Petco, Petsmart and petsupermarkets near me only have seed bags (and seed/pellet mixes that are mostly seed). Do you guys usually buy pellets at these places or is there somewhere else?

i buy my food/pellets at www.foryourbird.com. The breeder where i got Lovie from recommended this place. Fast delivery too!

i bought mine from the vets. the avian vet suggested the high potency pellet to start because kiki is just starting the pellets. i give her the kaytee fusion and now mixed with the pellets. i'm pretty sure she's eating some. your bird is very pretty.

If you don't have a specialty bird shop nearby, then your best source for the better quality pellets is an avian vet or else online.

Grab the yellow pages, make some phone calls, and see what stores are out there and what they have in stock! Or if there's a pet bird club of any kind in your area, they could give you some suggestions on where to shop.

I buy Harrison's pellets from a specialty bird shop, and it's several miles from where I live and normally shop, so I always call ahead to make sure they aren't out of stock on the exact kind my birds prefer. (Mine like the super fine size, and I get the high potency version because one or the other of my birds is always moulting...)

good site. now that i know which one to feed kiki, it would be better for me to order from the site instead of buying from the vet. even with shppg, if i bought a larger amt it would be cheaper in the end. thanks Lisa.

Thanks for all the ideas! I went to Petco because I didn't have alot of time and it is only 1.5 miles from my house. I ended up buying a small 1.25 container of Lafeber's premium daily diet for parakeets (pellets). It's supposed to be naturally preserved and flavored (no colorings), Omega 3 & 6 balanced, with vitamins, minerals, amino acids, etc. (It's dated 10/25/08....first thing I looked at) When that is getting low I'll start looking, see maybe what else is available....unless Jasper really likes it. But I'll still carefully watch dates on things...

Thanks for the comments on Jasper's color, I'm trying to get good pictures that are true to color. hopefully soon, but he's molting and has decided to turn his back to me if I have the camera aimed. (that started today...the little stinker!) He's definitely a greywing, with a light yellow face. What I'm not sure of is I think he might be a muave or violet. The flash on the camera makes him look bluer than he is...didn't mean to ramble, just getting frustrated trying to get better pictures!!
