Harmony has had millions of pinfeathers on his head for the past few days, and yesterday I looked at Morpheus and he had bald spots! Then I gave him a shower and noticed he also had millions of pinfeathers coming in.

So...just checking...it's molting season, right? Do they molt in fall AND in spring?

Most keets moult in the spring. They also will do some moulting throughout the year - obviously they can't replace ALL their feathers at one time or they'd be bald and unable to fly.

How much they moult at one time, and how often they moult, varies from keet to keet.

My two are almost always growing in a few new feathers. Every few months they'll grow a bunch at once, but not in the HUGE moults like some keets have.

In other words:
Your keets will moult again before next spring, but nobody can really tell you when, how often, or how major. (The good news is, they don't get as cranky when it's just a few feathers involved.)

My birds have been molting like crazy too...I don't know who the feathers are from they just keep flying everywhere! Poor babies were looking so ugly on their heads at the middle of last week, but amazingly enough, new feathers are appearing already. I honestly didn't know what was up until I posted, but I guess the spring thing is happening with my babies.

My keets have mini-molts like 5-6 time a year no joke. For my guys there really is no specific time that they molt. But I can tell you that keets will often times have their large molts (which happen twice a year usually in which the large pin feathers develop) during a season change. For example, spring to summer. Or winter to spring. They do this so they can have a certain amount of down feathers according to the season so they can either stay warm with more feathers or have less feathers to cool down for the summer. lol
