I took some great pics of some of the guys at work. Enjoy!! smile

Shack. I taught him to stretch his wings up and out when I say 'Woo, Shacky is SO handsome!'

He kept trying to bite the lens of the camera!

When I come into the shop in the morning he says to me 'Hi, Shacky!' Which is what I say to him when I see him. When I open his cage to let him out for the day he tells me 'Hello, Darlin!' I've become really, really fond of him, and vice versa. Nancy says she's never seen him take to someone like he has me.

Shack'y Closeup...I LOVE this pic!

Dylan...who is looking really rough since his mate died, and Lacey, who loves to dance!

Lacey has a really dainty girl voice, and she sounds too, too funny when she talks! Dylan really likes her and it's helping him to have her as a friend so he doesn't grieve to death.

Odd clutchmates.

Little Finch!

Ringneck babies. I'm thinking I'm going to keep one! LOL

They look like little dinosaurs, don't they?

Yo-yo Finch, you toss him into the air and he comes right back! LOL He's a funny fellow!

They are AWESOME! I totally LOOOOVE my job!

Lacey tried to make an escape the other day. We had the door propped open and she went walking right out the door! Thank God her wings are clipped!! I had just clipped them a few days prior, too. I hear Nancy screaming to me "Get Lacey! She's outside!!" Lacey hates Nancy and would've fought her and might have flown into the road and gotten killed. I was all the way in the back of the shop and I came running to get her. There she is, standing on the sidewalk, looking around. It was kind of funny, but scary, too!

No. He has hand rearing formula on him. It makes his feathers all cruddy. His chest is naked because he hasn't gotten all of his adult feathers yet. You can see it really well because his crop is full.

That finch is soooooooooooo hilarious! I was laughing so hard when I saw him getting trampled by the other babies. He's like "Look at me! I'm just as big as them..." *Squish* Lol, he is soooooo adorable. laugh

It doesn't pay much money wise...but there are definitely other rewards involved. It's really cool how you form friendships with the birds. They come to know you and are genuinely happy to see you, which is more than I can say for most jobs where you work with people!

Like Shack, he has picked up the way I talk and laugh and mimics me, people even say how he sounds like me when they come in to visit.

It's really fun smile

EVERYONEneeds to do a few days working with animals every once in a while...like working in a shelter a weekend here or there. It's really rewarding. You can't help but smile when you're playing with an animal!

Yes! I totally agree. That's why when the museum closed I was so depressed. Animals are so wonderful to work with. Even on the worst days I would go take one of the raptors outside and *poof* instant smile. Very rewarding.

I so want a partime job in a pet store but there is no way. I can't touch meal worms/crickets/ those ;long sluggy things that eat the tofu, sick or spiders or um scorpions. Other than that hmm there may be more things eww but i have not seen them.

I have never touched a gerbil, hamster, guinea pig, chinchilla or ferret, just a bunny but they don't bother me i could learn those ones.

Someone came in the other day and saw him. When I told him that Nancy had hand fed him, he said 'Why? When the parents aren't feeding it, you let it die.' This guy is a "reputable breeder", too! People are really cruel.

Coco, you have never touched a chinchilla?!!! Seriously they are the softest things in the world. And their little paws are so stinking cute. You gotta find one and pet it soon!! If I wasnt allergic to them I would own one.

AW! the birds are beautiful! Lacey sounds like she's a sweet heart! She's beautiful too! What kind of color mutations does she have? I haven't seen a cockatoo like her before.

I like the Yo-yo finch! laugh I had no idea you can hand train finches, I thought they were too small, and their little hearts couldn't take it.

So much for what I know! LOL!

I think Yo-yo was a joke, as in you toss him away, and he comes back. A yo-yo or a boomerang, etc. smile

LOL...yea, it was a joke! smile

Lacey is a Galah, or Rose Breasted Cockatoo. They are considered very rare in the United States, but are actually a nusiance bird in Australia and farmers kill them. She's a great bird. She talks pretty well, loves to dance and has a preference about the type of music she will dance to, and is gentle.

WOW!Hard to imagine a bird like that being killed... Maybe we need to import them for pets instead of shooting them. (I know, I know... hard to domesticate a wild bird).
