Today, when I went in my room to check on the birds and the gerbils, i saw oreo laying in the corner of the tank really still, so i tapped on the glass, and he didn't move, and then i touched him with something and he still didn't move, so I was surprised to see he was DEAD. :'( But I don't know WHY he died?! And I feel bad for vanilla.... as now he doesn't have a buddy...and is all alone in the big tank of his....

R.I.P. Oreo! I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART!

awww, I am so sorry!! that's so sad! how old was oreo? I know gerbils don't have really long lifespans, but it's still sad!

=[

I hope vanilla's okay with the loss. I would, however, clean out the tank imediately. I had two hamsters a few years ago and one died randomly one day and the other two days later. I had no clue why this happened, and I was going to clean the tank out and my brother insisted on butting his hamster (who was in a much smaller cage) into my larger tank, and I advised against it (becuase I didnt know what killed the other two hamsters) and his died the next morning. It was all really sad and I got mad at my brother for ignoring my advice and killing his hamster. Oreo could have been sick, so i think it would be best to clean the tank.

LLPB, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss! I know how hard it is to lose anyone close to you, even if it's 'only' a beloved pet. Take care of yourself these next few days.
Hugs and best wishes,
Kelly

Oreo is in my thoughts. I know you had him for just a year, but, I'm sure you were very attatched to him. We had our little hampster, "Hampy" died after having her for about three years. My son found Hampy in her cage, and she was bleeding from her little nose. My son, he was only 11 at the time, said Hampy must have fell down and hit her head, and died. Him saying that made everything seem okay. He just assumed since her nose was bleeding, that she feel and hit her nose. It was kinda funny, I just had a picture in my mind little Hampy tripping and falling the half an inch to the ground. Anyway, kids can really say things to cheer ya up, even when they don't mean to.
Sorry for your loss, at least Oreo was in your life for a little while.
