Hi Rayne, Even Vets have been wrong about the sex of parakeets without DNA sexing, but from the photos, and my experience, both of your parakeets appear to be female. However, photos can be misleading. Please check out my parakeet website for more information at www.freewebs.com/huggybec. Males tend to have VERY SMOOTH CONSISTENT-in-color CERES whereas females tend to have ones that are not as prominent, and the colors appear scaley or muted. Albino and lutino males can have pale pink ceres, whereas, normally, they are a deep purplish blue. From the photos, I'd bet they are both female. As far as the age goes, I'm guessing the white one to be about 8 months old, and the blue one 6 to 8 months. It's difficult to see the lines on his head from the photos. The closer the lined feathers are to the cere, the younger the keet. The lined feathers recede as the babies age.

Hope you will look at the website, cause I think it will be helpful to you!!

I'm gonna say girls as well. The blue one I feel fairly certain is female, the white one is interesting and I don't believe I have sexed a young all white bird. Looks female to me though.

As for the blue ones age I would say she is much younger than 5-6 months. There is black still on the beak, which is an indication of how young she is, they are born black and quickly change to normal color. When I bought my English Sammy he still had quite black in his beak and a bit more than your bird. I got sammy about two weeks after he came out of the nest box for the first time and he was able to eat on his own. I will have to look up about when the black goes away, but I wouldn't imagine the bird is older than 2-3 months or so.

As for the stripes on the head, while this is a good way to tell age, it doesn't always work. There are many different types of keets and some have different traits than others. Some have bars and others don't and so on. I would say that it would be very hard to tell on the blue bird had I not seen the black on the beak, this is an easy give away on this bird being very young, probably less than 4 week since it left then nest, just a very young baby and the absolute perfect time to get her, couldn't be better. BTW those are some very beautiful birds, congrats. Jloc
