I've heard of caiques too but know nothing about them. I'd also love to learn more if anybody has any experience with one!

Pionites melanocephalus = Black-headed caique

Pionites melanocephalus pallidus = Pallid caique.

Pionites leucogaster = White-bellied caique

Pionites leucogaster leucogaster = Green-thighed caique

Pionites leucogaster xanthomerius = Yellow-thighed caique

Pionites leucogaster xanthurus = Yellow-tailed caique
**************************************************

Very playful. They do like a LOT of social time with interaction, definetly not a solitary bird

Caiques can vocalize at a high pitch, They do scream when frightened or growl and squeal when angry They are capable of a hard bite, so a hand fed one is definetly a plus. They are adorable when they are excited by showing a fluffed head feathers, a cocky march towards the object of intent and out held wings. They have a small ability to talk, few can talk very clearly, but they are are not renowned for their talking ability. Caiques love cuddling, scratches and gentle caresses of their head feathers and chest, especially thier cheeks. They use anything and everything as a toy. They are very agile, love to run and hop, usually preferring not to fly. They are also extremely fond of hanging upside down and swinging from hanging toys while flapping their wings. They enjoy toys of all sorts and are very persistent when they see something they want. They love interaction and also lots of stimulating toys. They are fun, loving, and cuddle bugs they truley are the "Clown" of the parrot world they just never seem to stop playing.

--- I myself have never owned one, however since you were requesting info - I called my breeder who bred them -- You are looking at a heafty price tag, as they've grown in popularity and only recently have people been able to breed them easier --- My breeder said she sold her babies for $875.00

I think they are adorable! From what I've read about them..I would NOT say laid back. You want a laid back bird get a cockatiel. Tiels are very mellow and docile.

I went into my local fish shop (I like looking at their sharks) and there was a white bellied Caique. I know I will not be allowed to have it, but it was adorable. It let me pet it and it came down the steps to be near me!

Caiques are only good for people who have owned the more mischevious birds. You can frequently qquote there owners reciting this peom about their caiques.
there was a little girl
who had a little curl
right in the center of her forhead
when she was good
she was very very good
but when she was bad
she was horrid

they're cute and fun to play with, but they turn on you like that. when they're bored playing they let you know by peircing your lip or ear for you (one girl had to actually get a ring in her cartlidge because it wouldnt heal) or flying at you and sqwaking...
yeah

needless to say though I want one.

I love caiques, i realy want one =( Did a whole load of research awhile ago. They're meant to be realy full of energy, and just love to play alot. But also have biting problems so need alot to chew on and need to be cautious with training so they know whos boss and dont just bite you all the time...

Found this site which seemed great for info =D
