fixed your pic for you...and such a LOVELY bird...so handsome.

I agree I think he wants some out time to play and getting restless...and IS in hormonal changes and becoming a young man...

however first and foremost keep in mind his cage is HIS territory HIS home and even if he is accepting of your intrusive hand at times there will be times ...like this...when he isn't and is telling you ...I just want to play alone...

I can see your cage is on the smaller size and you should have something bigger for him...that's why he is hanging onto a perch and flapping like crazy he needs excercise ...some out time at least a hour would be good have a long perch ready for retrieval and I don't recall if you have let him out yet or not but be prepared for a crash and burn...

should he do this DONT rush over to him let him stay where ever he is for a good ten minutes then approach him speaking softly with the long perch and get low to him...when he gets on the perch slowly walk him back to NEAR the cage and let him fly to it...then leave him be again..

now is the time tho before you let him out to birdie proof everything...no ceiling fans on no standing water anywhere and if you have large mirrors anywhere cover with a towel or sheet...and try to cover windows as best as you can with the curtains..and of course no burners on your stove should be on and no cooking going on.

I see some cat balls hanging ...that's great...

he maybe bitting somewhat hard at this time because he is protecting whatever he is playing with and telling you its my time to play with this when im done then you can if you want in the meantime jes let him be don't interfere. they do get protective of favorite toys and when they do this is the way they act and its best to just let them be...get it out of their system...

you should have some foot toys on the bottom of the cage as well like a single cat ball or one of those plastic bubble toys you find in a kids vending maching where it cost a quarter to get one...

the only thing I disagree with is toys he can pull apart this is the same with females and gets them into breeding mode and nesting mode where they will get like this...same with mirrors.

don't ever engage or try to engage with him for discipline when he is in this hormonal mode...it will only re-enforce the behavior and it will get more aggressive...btw ...when hormones are in high gear it will stay this way for the length of time it takes for his cere to become less blue...cappy's pic above shows he was in full blown breeding mode and when he is like this I give him PLENTY of OUT time and just let him play...and fly about like crazy...and when he goes back to the cage then I close it up...ill wait a hour and let him out again...and repeat sort of like a time out period for him...

the ONLY time ive beak bopped him is when he was obviously trying to draw blood because of these times...then we had to do a what I call a alpha bird training time...this does not mean repeated beak bops tho...if you don't know what your doing this can hurt the bird and then of course they get even more aggressive and understandably so.

instead just leave him be let him out and get more toys and a larger cage...

but tess is right this is NORMAL during the times you will see that cere getting a deeper blue...till it returns to a lighter color usually at least a month...

restricted also at this time some of his veggie offerings ...don't take them away completely but just don't offer as frequently...

daylight time when you put him to bed can help too make it earlier...as daylight plus a good supply of delightful foods say its a good time to go to nest.

so restrict veggies some...reduce daylight by covering earlier at night and don't interfere with him in his cage during the times he is doing this and get more toys and PLENTY OF OUT TIME.

his color from what I can tell looks to say he is of the SPANGLE variety.

I also sent to you the picture in your private messages so you can save it to your files and then I can remove from mine in photo bucket...if you look up top you will see a little envelope flashing this is your private messages just click on it...save the photo and let me know when you have done that so I can remove it from mine...thanks.
