It's a similar situation in the UK re. working dog food.

Food marketed as being for working dogs (gundogs, hunting dogs, working hounds, etc) is VAT free so is instantly 20% cheaper than 'pet' food right off the bat.

They tend to be more open about what goes into their food as hunting folks are generally a lot more pragmatic over what they and their dogs eat. They're more likely to recognize that there's nothing inherently bad or 'icky' about heart, lung, testicles, arseholes & eyeballs, etc. going into dog food. As such there's no need to try & hide the fact by using flowery language to disguise what sorts of offal products are used.

It's not always the case, but working dog food also often has higher protein content than pet food, as working dogs tend to be more active than pet dogs.

I would agree that quality of dog food is becoming more poor every year. This is why I have a dog in my Munich property and I feed it with a real food. I mean I cook it myself. For example I boil meat and vegetables and make it like a porridge. My dog loves it.

Lately, my dog has been experiencing some health issues, leading to a noticeable increase in vet bills. From digestive problems to recurring ear infections, it feels like I’m constantly at the vet. Each visit brings new medications, treatments, or tests, which quickly add up. While I try to keep my dog healthy through proper diet and exercise, some issues seem unavoidable. A friend recommended Dogtrain which offers health training tips that could potentially help reduce the frequency of these visits. I’m hopeful that with better care strategies, we can manage these ongoing problems more effectively.
