well im happy that your happy lol but, many of us ..hate to say this but....dont find pellets healthy...altho you may get a few in here that feed pellets and like them.... more lol dont...its too high in protien levels...for one but there are also other issues with pellets too.

most commercial seeds are not very good either with all that food coloring etc.

read this thread from page one to the end...

http://www.wineintro.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/414737/1

many now buy seeds separately and make their own mix up...way healthier...as your going organic and get rid of all the junk in commercial mixes that are proven not healthy for birds. smile

read ALL the post and click on any of the links also in that thread ...it will take awhile but its a good thing to do with your time. laugh

in fact you will find some not many as yet but some..commercial companies have caught on and are doing the same with going all organic and getting rid of all the rest of the crap in their mixes (additives etc.)

here is a pic of what i feed and there is NOTHING artificial in this mix its all natural the colors are from
the mix no additives

you dont have straight seed unless its like the mix above...there is additives in most all commercial foods including pellets, but again some of them are even changing how they make their foods...none is straight seed...and no i personally dont consider it better...i consider it worse actually...but thats me and like i have said there are a few...who like pellets...:( its a personal thing

but the above is all natural and totally healthy and as mentioned you should read that good food thread and the links ... smile however your trying and that a good sign... smile

birds dont have pellets in the wild they have whatever they can forage and what you call straight seed in fact...and what i call ...all natural.

the term straight seed refers to what was being bed FIFTY years ago which was only three different types of seed ...not like today where there is a wide range of blends to seeds and grains...

I mix up a BIG batch of organic canary seed and parakeet seed. I vacuum pack it and freeze it until I need it. When I make up my boys food dishes, I will add some crushed red pepper and/or fennel seed and/or anise seed and/or dried cilantro, dried dill etc. I always have a well stocked spice/herb cabinet and will use these different seeds and herbs. I also purchased some Herb Salad from Twin Beaks Aviary and put a good pinch in along with their seed. I also started to sprinkle a little bit of hatch egg shell (also from Twin Beaks) on top of their food. I change up the herbs from my cabinet each week so they get a variety, but always start with the organic seed mix.

I find that this is a good way to get them to eat more than just bird seed. The Herb Salad is really good for their general health.

Here is a link for the HERB SALAD

and there are more than just..those seeds one can add as mentioned in the GOOD FOOD THREAD link i posted ...their are grains as well..there is no need lady to freeze it tho after you hurrray vacuum seal it ..it serves no purpose to freeze it as freezing doesnt kill any bugs or larvae when you bring it to room temp they become viable again ..also with vacuum sealing non of that is a issue anyway...when one does not vacuum seal something also is when moister/condensation occurs inside other forms of wrapping or sealing and THATS what spoils food fast.

with going organic there are no additives of any kind...so THAT then is what I WOULD call "straight seed AND grains" and TOTALLY healthy.... laugh

that link for the HERBSALAD is also mentioned in the GOOD FOOD THREAD as well as other links.

The Herb Salad is dried, some when you mix it with the seed they will eat it. You can ask for a sample to test it out.
