No good news, Paco passed away yesterday. I tried my best to help him but I guess he was just too far gone.
I think I know what happened to him. I did a lot of research and found some video of a bird with Twirling Disease. It looked exactly like what Paco was doing.
Monday night he did not look good and the twirling was getting worse, I was actually thinking about bringing him in to be put down because he was suffering. He passed before I could.
Thank You to everyone for all your advice and thoughts. I appreciate all of them. Now I need to focus on our female and am wondering if she is sad without Paco. I am wondering if I should get her a new friend.

Sorry to hear this. R.I.P. Paco.

I vaguely remember reading about twirling disease, but have never heard of anyone's budgie getting it (here's a link to some info, if anyone's interested -- http://www.avianweb.com/stargazing.html ).

I don't know but it seems to me that you and your vet did the right things and the best treatment approach for the poor little guy.

As for your female, in my opinion a new birdy buddy might be just the thing for her. On the other hand, you and she could do some major bonding & training now (if you feel that more is needed).

Oh no zoomom. I am so so sorry frown (((HUGS)))
I had never heard of Twirling Disease. Thank you for mentioning it, and thank you P&R for some info on it.Knowledge is power, and knowing about dif diseases and preventatives may very well help someone in the future.

Again zoomom, I am so sorry for your loss.
I'm really not sure how long you should wait before getting your female a new friend. Maybe play it by ear, spend lots of time with her and let her grieve her friend for a bit? If she starts acting depressed and lonely, then I would get her a friend.

The link P&R posted was one of the pages I read. There was also a video somewhere and watching the video was how I figured out that that was what Paco had.
I am surprised that the vet didn't mention it but then again Paco wasn't doing it as bad when we saw him.
It is an awful disease.

Well, I give you a LOT of credit, zoomom -- you're an observant & smart person, in my opinion, to have researched the illness and figured out what was going on. (Next time I have to research "poopology" about one of my birds, can you give me a hand? Lol -- I ended up so confused about what droppings indicated what! It was hard for me to come to any conclusions; thank heavens for our avian vet.)

Aw I'm so sorry, zoomom. How terrible! and I hadn't heard of this disease either. At least he didn't suffer too long. RIP Paco! And my sympathy goes out to you. It was amazing that you found what he was suffering from.

Again, RIP Paco
