I have heard that only male teils peck at things like a woodpecker. I think it is to attract a mate. Chewy pecks at everything. His dish, his perches, the bars of the cage... So if you see or hear Vash pecking then he's probably a boy.
I know there is a way of telling after abot 1 year, one sex keeps the bars on the un derside of the tail feathers anf the other doesnt. Big Bad Momma and Terryluvsgoldens both know, maybe you could PM them
I can't really tell from the picure but if you look at the chest and stomach area and you don't see stripes then it's a male;females have lines going across their middle let us knoe. also males have brighter orange patches then females.females have pale patches.
