I am expecting some flaming, and that is fine....I can take it, but will not respond to any negative posts about my decision........Here goes....
As many of you know, I was having a issue with my husband, noisy birds, and what to do about it. As it was, I did not have a place to relocate my BIG cage, and to complicate things, we had an opprotunity to move into a smaller place, that we would have been able to save a decent amount of money, and hopefully be able to buy something after a year or 2. Well, there was no way I could fit my giant cage in the new place, so I went ahead and reduced my flock to just Neptune and Big Bird. I took Pepino, Margalo, and Julian to Magnolia bird farm. They promised to adopt out Margalo and Pepino together since they were bonded, and Julian could go in with the rest of the birds and get some love for once. They had huge aviaries with every colr of keet you can imagine. I was sad, but it was the best place to leave them and have good homes found for them. I was planning on using my much smaller cage for Big Bird and Neptune, and I was going to sell my Big cage. 1 week before our move, I get a call that the place we were moving to, would no longer be available because the tenent decided to stay. We ended up moving into another townhome in our neighborhood and I was able to keep my big cage. So it has just been Big Bird and Neptune and Big Bird is not able to explore the cage due to his handicap. He just hangs by the food dishes and on the lower perches. Neptune in turn just hangs right by him and not even utilizing all the space these lucky little keeties have. Well I decided to get a new keet, in hopes of Neptune getting some more excercise and following another able bodied keet around the cage. The last time I had 3 birds, it was perfect because Neptune left Big Bird alone (which is what he prefers) and hung with the 3rd keet. My new baby is a Violet, Opaline, Clearflight...I think. He is probably 6-8 months, judging by his iris rings and molting pattern. I named him Quigley. He is a little skittish of course, but has already got on my finger, and even chirped at me when I talked to him. I am going to keep my flock at 3, since this was a good number, and hubby is OK with an extra bird because I was able to fit the cage downstairs and not right in his ear.
So....I will need to update my pic with my actual birds, and then I won't get sad looking at my other babies all the time. Now you know why I have been kinda staying away! I know some will understand, and others will think I am a heartless B****. You are all entitled to your opinions. Thanks for letting me clear my concience.

I for one think that you did what you had to. You found them a good home. You didnt kill them or abandon them. Sometimes life throws us curveballs and we have to make sucky adult decisions. I am sure they will find wonderful homes. I know that you will miss them. You now have a manageable flock and hubby is happy. I am looking forward to seeing the pics of your new baby.
 RIP Peeps

I don't think you are heartless or anything bad at all. Sometimes you have to do what is best for all concerned. It sounds like you have done that, even though it turned out different than you planned. Life has a funny way of guiding us to where we need to be.

Sometimes life throws things at us that we don't expect and you just have to take what life gives you and roll with it. You did the best you could given the circumstances. It was good of you to keep the bird with the handicap and that shows me that you weren't out to get a bird that was "better" or "not broken." You did what was best for your birds given the situation and I respect you for that. No flaming from my end.

I think is great that you made the effort and took the time to make sure they went some place good. I actually wrote you in another topic maybe a week ago about how I think Big Bird is just so beautiful. He really is big! Is he English? Is his head really big or does he puff up his head feathers like my spikey Kiwi in the picture below? What is his handicap? Sorry there are so many questions but I just love that bird!!

Yes, I agree...you never know what curve balls life will throw your way. I wish I knew how it would have ended up and I would have definately kept my babies. I always felt sorry for Julian because he was the odd guy out. I hope he finds a birdy to love with...
pollyannie, Yes Big Bird is an English Budgie. I did not know there was anything wrong with him until after I bought him and got him home. There is something wrong with his feet. They are almost smashed/flattened looking and his grip is not the greatest. He does pretty well on wide or rope perches on the lower part of the cage. He is just a big Teddy Bear of a bird and such a sweetie. My Neptune has tried and tried to be close with him, but he does net return any favors. He does not like to be fed or preened by Neptune. He will cry for Neptune if I take Neptune out of the cage, but he ignores Neptune once he is back. I think it is because feeding and preening can throw off his balance and cause him to fall. I wish that English Budgies were more easily available, I just LOVE them. I don't know if he is fat or fluffy, but he is like twice the size of Neptune. I saw some last weekend that looked like small chickens.
Kariva, Is Freddy violet or cobalt?? Quigley looks very similar, but with clear flight feathers. I will get some pics soon!!
