Both Ace and Sunny had issues with their feet where they didn't even want to use them, they would just drag them along, but the more they were without perches the more they started using them. Let her out to play with the other guys occasionally and she'll want to keep up and she'll learn to use it again. It's a process. You could even do exercises with her a few times a day, stretching her foot flat and holding it, or setting her on a flat surface like that. And if worse comes to worse and she doesn't get use back she'll learn to compensate by using her beak and her wing to help herself along. Put some platforms in the cage for her to use, put food and water, and some toys at her level. She can still have a good life despite her injury.

Ok so just because I seriously know how your bird feels... I never want to use my feet either. I roll out of bed onto the ground in the morning and then stare around like 'now what heather... you cant crawl in to work' so then I have to get up and stretch whether I want to or not because unfortunately the world has yet to provide me with squishy heels (my feet prefer to be pointed) Eventually sky will realize alright I can limp around forever... especially if theres nothing small enough for me to wrap my foot around and i wanna keep up with the gang... and she'll begin to use it more. mind you even using it still closed is probably a stretch for her. Physical therapy takes time...

Uhhh Heather...I didn't know it is that bad, glad you are ok now, how long did it take for you to heal though?

Like you said Jessica, Sky is dragging her foot everywhere too. I got real worried assuming that she'll get so used to it. And that if she doesn't perch somewhere, she won't do anything with her foot & it'll curl up even more...I will start with the bigger perch, and hopefully w/o perch as soon as per drops become normal again.

Earlier I tried to stretch her foot and let her hang out with the other guys. To my suprise...Cookie & Pinkie were SOOOO mean to her. They kept chasing her off & pecking at her. Poor little Sky was working so hard moving around with her beak and got such reaction. She used to be the biggest boss in there, but only after a month being separated (right next to the other cage too) she's becoming a newbie all over again. She's much more fragile now frown Peace was the main...victim of Sky back then, but look who's protecting her now. These little ones are driving me nutsss wink

they're also attacking her because she's weak and therefore a threat to the flock (attracting predators) I just got an idea of how you can slowly do this. give her the next size perch up from what she can comfortably perch on now, that will stretch it out a tiny bit, and then the next size up and so on until she regains mobility of her feet kind of like gaugeing and earring hole... I would think the cheapest way to do it is buy dowel rods and joanne or wherever.
And yeah it is that bad. I'm never gonna 'heal' unless i get surgery and have my tendons surgically elongated and thinned (they're twice as thick as they're supposed to be) I just have to stretch a lot and I go get cortisone shots every once in a while to bring down the swelling in the tissue around the area and I take anti inflammitories... Also i should throw out there, it isn't just her little tendons that hurt, the inflammation will make the area around her foot (as in... her soft tissue) really tender too, so make sure theirs nothing that could poke her the wrong way. on a bad day if i step on the seam of my jeans with the spot right in front of my heel i can be reduced to tears... and its just because the area around my tendon is so swollen.

Thank you for all your well wishes everyone, Sky really needs that!!! smile

Yes...attacking is more of a precise description of what they did to her. It was so scary like they just didn't want her to be anywhere near them. I let her in a few times before (when she was sick) but they were not as bad...

That sounds like a good idea Heather..though I'm not quite sure what exactly a dowel rod is. I've googled it & I think where I can find that stuff. She loves perching on her little swing so I just bought her a bigger one to replace. She's still refusing it b/c it's too big but hopefully soon.

Ugh...I'm sorry you are still going through with this. It is a lot worse than I thought. I have major cramps on my feet sometime and I thought it's already bad enough. I hope you'll be able to get the surgery and have it healed asap. Our feet are just are important as the birds' right...:) Take care and I really appreciate for all your help!!!
