Hey, I'm thinking of getting two parakeets in a month or so, and I'm looking at a cage that's 13x11x19 - I see that a lot of you have huge cages, which would be preferable I know, but my birds will have to live in my room, and my room's not all that big; would a cage the size I specified be big enough for two birds?
(I would of course let them out as often as I could for exercise)

No, way too small for even one keet. No matter how much they would get out, that cage is too small.

Hello everone,

We bought the plant stand at THE GREAT INDOORS. http://www.thegreatindoors.com/index.html
Can not find it on the internet, sorry.
I had to move the upper shelf up about 20 inchs. Then I added the UV light to shine on the cage. (2.0 UVB with a 12% UVA) I also put a standard 12 inches Fluorescent light in the play area...
Both lights are on a timer that goes on at 7:00 AM and off at 12:00 PM then on again at 2:00 PM and then it is bedtime at 9:00 PM... I install a 24 inches ladder from the roof of the cage to the play area... I fasten the ladder to the plant stand so I could remove the cage from the plant stand without the ladder ... The door is open 24 hours a day for them to come and go from the cage to the play area...

The size of the Plant Stand is 24"x24" and 90 inches tall.. It seem like the kids love it.... When the light turns off... They head to the cage and go to the left perch and sleep until the light comes back on...
The light is on for 12 hours a day... 10 hours at night and 2 hours in the afternoon the light will turn off... Right now it is 1:30 PM and their are sound a sleep...
I do not think that The UV-spectrum light will put out that much heat.

"Check this page out for more info on lighting"
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/pic/article.cfm?dept_id=0&siteid=5&acatid=238&aid=1015

The Overall cage size is 26"L x 14"D x 22 1/2" H.

No, the minimum cage size for one is 18x18x18, so I'd get a bigger cage if I were you. smile As big as you can afford...
