Lisa - early 1970s

Our family had birds when I was quite small. This is me probably age 4 or so, with some of our birds in the background.

LOL Cute! Happy Halloween!
I see the round cage there. Things we know today sure have come a looong way huh?
Not just the fact that round cages are not good, but things like gravel n grit and sandpaper perch covers and cage liners? I remember using those as a kid in our bird cage. Not to mention feeding so much fresh vegs and the variety of seeds, grains herbs n spices that are so good for them.

Dear kksuns -

I thought the exact same thing when I first saw the photo - the poor birds in that thing! I bet they did have sandpaper perches too, I was too small to remember.

I don't think people knew as much in the early 70s as they did today. We have learned a lot about how to care well for our feathered friends!

I asked my mom and she thinks this wasn't Gandalf, our parakeet. She thinks this cage held our pair of finches. So I'll have to track down a photo of Gandalf and his cage, if I have it somewhere around here. We did enjoy birds!
