Carmenere Wine Information

Carmenere is a red grape that was best known for its use as a blending wine in France. It is one of the only allowed varieties that can be used in Red Bordeaux, but it is rarely used in that blend.

In recent times Chile has adopted Carmenere as a grape which grows very well in their environment, and have become the biggest source of single-variety Carmenere wine on the market.

Interestingly, Chile had had Carmenere planted for many years - but they thought it was a type of Merlot. It was only recent DNA testing which helped to clear up the mystery!

Carmenere can have flavors of cherry, chocolate and smoky tobacco.
