Candling Eggs - 02/26/09 04:06 AM

my parakeet had laid 4 eggs within the last week and has been sitting on them and taking care of them like a good mother but i'm not sure if they's fertile. i've candled them and the older ones have dark spots but are still kind of translucent. what should they look like at about a wks time?

Welcome to the forum.
The only thing I can tell you is they should not have a blood ring. I have only candled chicken eggs and after a week there should be a dark spot that is the embro.

Stupid question here - do you have a male?

When Angel had her babies, I candeled obsessively once a day, and sometime in the first few days I could see the arteries and there was a distinct red tinge to the yellow inside. After at least a week there was a tiny dark dot that I could see flickering--the baby's heart!
