Taming Scouser

Taming Scouser - 03/09/07 04:14 PM

Okay, I tried separating City and Scouser, keeping them upstairs away from the other keets. I thought I could work with the two of them, didn't work.

I eventually just put all the budgies together, but kept noticing all of the birds, including City picking on poor Scouser.

So, I have decided after much thought, to just take him out and bringing him upstairs. So far, he seems very happy. He isn't calling out to the keets. He's apparently happy, sitting on the swing I put in there for him. All he wanted in the other cage was to sit on a swing and be left alone, but the other keets would climb up and peck at him, and not let him sit on the swing.

I'm going to give him his space for a few days before I try to start working with him again. He still "steps up" on command, but only on command, if I don't say it, he'd be flapping like mad away from me.

Wish me luck! I'll post back again giving any up-dates. smile

Re: Taming Scouser - 03/09/07 09:47 PM

Thanks guys! I worked with him today. He's molting right now, itchy pinfeathers on his forehead, but he did pretty good. He acted a bit nervous, so I only had him out about 10 minutes.

He flew away from me about 4 times.

Re: Taming Scouser - 03/09/07 10:12 PM

Poor Scouser!! We picked our Tulip because he seemed to be being picked on by the other birds in the cage at the store! Something about that mommy instinct made us want to save him!! smile I am glad Scouser has such an observant mommy!! It's good to hear he is happy where you moved him! He is sooo pretty or should I say handsome?? LOL He looks so fluffy and soft! Good luck with your training!! I hope it goes well!! Keep us posted! smile

Aw Scousie Wowsie is being picked on why I aughta , ah they are all so cute. They are prob. just jealous of his smashing good looks says Coco. She thinks if it continues to be a problem rather than solitary confinement you should seperate him alll the way up here to Canada.

Re: Taming Scouser - 03/10/07 05:50 AM

aww

When you say he flew away do you mean he just went to the ground or like flying flying?

Re: Taming Scouser - 03/10/07 07:45 PM

He sounds much happier after you moved him to upstairs, Good Luck with him smile

Posted By: Birdie Menagerie

Re: Taming Scouser - 03/10/07 08:00 PM

I'll consider the idea of moving him to Canada if they continute to pick on him, Coco's Mama. smile

Noel: He has his wings clipped, so he sort of flutters to the ground and waddles.

We took him out again today, and he was much more relaxed this time and didn't fly away at all.

I think he's enjoying not being picked on by the other keets. He chirps up a storm when the TV's on.

Maybe he likes the alone time and attention. But what if it grows old as he hears the flock downstairs will you give them another chance, wow this is complicated, I am happy he seems happy now.

Coco is asking me about airmiles . sigh.

I figure I'll just keep Scouser upstairs for a few weeks, maybe more. Give him a bunch of one on one time. smile

aww LOL

Does he play with his toys?
Posted By: Birdie Menagerie

Re: Taming Scouser - 03/12/07 12:46 PM

No, Scouser doesn't play with any toys. As a breeder bird, he was just in a cage with other English Budgies, no toys. So, he doesn't know how to play.

Lol, his favourite activity besides eating, is sitting.

Re: Taming Scouser - 03/12/07 09:07 PM

Lewis: I've got two parrotlets in my avatar, Abercrombie & Fitch, but I did used to have two Quaker/Monk Parakeets. I loved them!

They are such little characters. I used to take the female out with me shopping or to the movies, and she knew to stay hidden inside my jacket. (People didn't allow animals into malls and such like they seem to now). The male Quaker, I used to take camping with me.

Parrotlets are much like a Quaker(Monk), but in a smaller package. And they are a bit quieter too. When I had my Quaker's I had one at a time, and they bonded very strongly with me. The Parrotlets, we got two at the same time, and they allow us to entertain them, but they are bonded more to each other.

Re: Taming Scouser - 03/12/07 09:37 PM

Wow, that picture worked!! It wasn't showing up for me last night. I uploaded it to photobucket, time and time again, and nothing was there, and when I posted the code, nothing showed, it was really weird, but then, I guess it did finally post.

I "magic cut" out each bird, resized the photos, and then "stitched" them together, all of which was done in the photo shop. Then I just "bucket filled" the backround. I had a long boring weekend with which I had a lot of time on my hands, lol.

Yeah, Scouser is quite the riot, oh yeah, I forgot, his other favourite activity is napping, lol. smile

Oh yeah, and my Quaker, she used to stick her head out of the front of my jacket when the lights dimmed, she knew I had just bought a tub of popcorn and she wanted some, she'd actually just stay hidden inside my jacket, with me sitting there with a tub of popcorn, waiting for the lights to go out. She never got out of my jacket, she stayed there, eating popcorn and looking out at the movie. smile

Re: Taming Scouser - 03/13/07 01:25 AM

I got photo shop with my canon camera.

Scouser is doing pretty well. Today, I took him out and he did really well, stepping up and coming out of his cage, but after getting out, well, he decided to go exploring in the room. And even though his wings are clipped, he has BIG wings, so he can fly pretty gosh darn far, I tell you!

It appears as though he likes the TV show HOUSE, cus when it was on, he kept trying to fly to the TV. Maybe he knows that Hugh Laurie is English?

Birdie, that's awesome. You'd think he's already trained by all the beautiful photos your able to take of him.

And Coco's Mama, they'd have to stop in Minnesota first to take a rest and I don't think he'd want to leave Snowing Feather and Perfect Lady cuz they would have the greatest welcoming ever!

Oh no Snowing Feather you can't jump back on now to steal Scousie..lol. Beside birdie knows what awits any of her lil ones at Coco Chanel's Chic Boutique for the discerning budgie, u just go see my commercials in non-parakeet under bird showing lol.

Coco says: Hi Scousie and waves her wing with her new long feather on it.
Posted By: Birdie Menagerie

Re: Taming Scouser - 03/13/07 12:20 PM

lol, that sounds soo cute, waves with her new long feather. smile

What to do with a budgie that doesn't want to play? He isn't like the younger keets all full of curiosity.

I guess trying to play with a 4 year old budgie is like trying to play with a 50 year old newspaper reading old dude, lol.

Welcome back Snowing Feather.

Ooo, yesterday, Scouser was watching me while he was in his cage!

So, he is now realizing that I am his companion.

With an adult budgie, I guess the most interaction I can hope for is that he'll stay on my shoulder? smile
Posted By: Coco's Mama

Re: Taming Scouser - 03/14/07 09:39 PM

Adult birds can still learn things, it's never to late. That's what makes budgies so great. Hey that rhymed. lol.

Oh Coco wants to know if Scouser has been keeping up with the new show..um Britain and the Lady. It's on the Non- Budgies channel on Bird Showing.

Re: Taming Scouser - 03/22/07 07:43 PM

tell me do amercombi and fitch give stock tips and tell everyone how to dress.love the name I never would of thought of those names, woud love to know how you came up with those names their so different.
Posted By: Birdie Menagerie

Re: Taming Scouser - 03/23/07 02:42 PM

LOL@give out stock tips, and dressing advice. laugh

As for how did I come up the names for my birds? Well, the parrotlets, we got them together, so I wanted a name that had two connecting. Since I love Abercromie & Fitch, there goes their names. smile

Lennon and McCartney were almost named that, but being as I love the Beatles. When Paul and John wrote a song together, it was listed as Lennon/McCartney, so I went with their last names.

The way I got the name Bijou, was I really had wanted to call her Coco Channel but no one else in the family liked it. My eldest son decided to do a search for "names for yellow birds" and came across a site that had the name Bijou. And my son and I both have taken French classes. Bijou means small perfect jem. smile

Pixel, is a small dot of colour, and being as Pixel had been so tiny when we got her, it seemed quite fitting. And being as I didn't know at the time if she was a boy or girl, Pixel was unisex. smile

City, got his name, because I had just come back from a second honeymoon from New York City. I loved the place so much. My husband new I loved this olive green bird in the pet store, and he surprised me with the bird one day. He gave me The City. laugh

My green English Budgie. I wanted to give him a name pertaining to something English. My husband is from Liverpool. He said that people from the Liverpool area are called Scousers. So, I named my bird Scouser. smile

Dover got her name because of her colour. She is also an English Budgie, so I wanted to give her a name pertaining to England. I thought of the White Cliffs of Dover. Plus, she reminded me of a white dove. It seemed perfect. laugh

Re: Taming Scouser - 03/24/07 12:08 AM

Wow, your names have quite a history.
I just chose random names that pop into my head. xD
Example: Sunshine and Snowflake/Snowball which go into Sunny and Snowy or Sun and Snow.

But they are all wonderful!

Re: Taming Scouser - 03/24/07 02:54 AM

Re: Taming Scouser - 03/26/07 08:19 PM

Ooo, today, I was able to get Scouser out of his cage, by simply saying "Scouser, step-up" and he stepped right onto my finger, and let me carry him over to his perch. I sat him down, and went over and got Dover. She flew out of the cage to the floor where she walked onto my hand, and let me put her onto the perch. There they sat while I watched General Hospital.

They were very good, and even let me take several photos of them while they sat there! laugh

When the time was done, I told them that I was putting them back, and Scouser stepped up, and let me carry him back to his cage. Dover, she flew away, but then walked onto my hand. She let me put her onto her swing, instead of her flapping like crazy into the cage.
