I have only recently become a member on your site and I actually found it after reading 'The Da Vinci Code'. But as I looked through I discovered you have a love of Japanese culture. I too have a fascination with Japanese culture and history. I am currently undertaking a university degree majoring in Japanese. This includes both a study of language and culture and is very interesting. I am not sure what I will do with it when I finish but I had no idea what else I would do so I decided to something that I enjoy. Anyway I am doing a research project on geishas, dealing with their lifestyles and the code of the geisha. I am wondering if you have any suggestions for reliable sources I can use to support the project, whether they be books or web pages or anything else of relevance. Thank you very much for all the work you have put into this website and I look forward to hearing from you soon with suggestions if you have time.

I'm sure there are lots of companies who would love having a Japanese expert on their staff!

I don't think I have any books just on geisha, but they are mentioned in most history books that cover the 1600s-1700s. So I would check out the library for those. I'll take a glance through my collection and see if any stand out as having a lot of info, if you really want to buy one, but most of these are $20-$30 books so I don't know that you want to spend that just for 3 or 4 pages.

Hi guys!

Memoirs of a Geisha will be made into a movie starring (strangely enough) a Chinese actress (Zhang Ziyi from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Rush Hour 2), and Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai)

I'm kinda looking forward to it though. I think the movie will be great.

By the way, The Da Vinci Code will also be movie-sized. Starring Tom Hanks as Robert L. laugh Isn't that great?

Yes we have a whole discussion about the Da Vinci Code in the forum about it smile I don't really share the same enthusiasm about Tom Hanks, but we'll see ...

I do like Ken Watanabe a great deal, but I don't like the idea of a Chinese actress for the lead character - she is of course the heroine of the entire story, and it is about Japanese culture ...
