I just got my parakeet last night, and he is already eating out of my hand. laugh He doesn't flap around at all when I put my hand in the cage, and I have already perched trained him in a few minutes! I can even get him to sit on my finger, but he doesn't much like that and jumps off after a few seconds. I am very happy for my new bird, but he seems very sleepy. When I am looking at him in his cage he closes his eyes a lot. Is this normal? confused

PS: He also grinds his beak. What is he doing this for?

Where did you get him? Because if it was from a "bin-o-budgies" I would find that quite surprising!

Yes! I got him from a Pet Supermareket. I don't quite know the name of it, but I will see if I can find it.

UPDATE: I think it is called. PETsMART, but I'm not entirely sure.

PETsMART? Wow... that's sorta odd... but great!

Just don't rush things! Have patience.

My new keet also did that, with the exception of eating off my hand, when I brought him home from the pet store. However, the following day after he has acclimated with the home, he became fidgety and refused to do much. I think he was shocked or stressed the first day, and did not know what was the "right" thing to do.

You must be very lucky if you new keet can do all those things :-)

I just got Bella Friday and she already eats out of my hand to and doesn't freak out if my hand is in the cage! I also got her from a local petstore. This is really weird! I don't know about the eye thing, but Bella is doing it, too.

That's great Maranda! laugh He sounds really tame and trusting! My keet Joey looked sleepy like that when I first got him too. It worried me, but as he got more used to being here, it stopped. So I bet it's just a nervous thing or something. smile
Oh and Bella, that's really cool for you too! laugh

That's wonderful that she's ajusting so quickly Maranda! Kacey does that alot too, she'll get all sleepy and grind her little beak. I think it's so cute :p Bella, that's great that she's doing so well! That's really strange, because Kacey was parents raised, and she is very quite still after three months!

I remember reading somewhere that keets grind their beaks when they're content. That means your keet is a happy keet laugh
