Well, i'm not Muslim but I don't think its a sin that your keeping your parakeets. If you were mistreating the keet like not feeding it or torchering it then it would be a sin but i don't think what your doing is a sin. You might want to spend a little more time with them though so that they'll grow to love you.

Hi Sidra.

There are a number of people on the site who know a lot about the sizes of cages that parakeets require and about freedom issues.

It is important that birds are contented and safe. You will receive some good advice, here, I'm sure.

Have you read Lisa's information pages? ~ All newcomers should do this.

This is something you need to discuss with your parents and find out why they object to having a parakeet and having it housed in a cage.

Perhaps you could also have them do some research with you on parakeets both as pets and in their wild state and help them to learn along with you about parakeets, the care, training ect. Try to make it a family learning experience and hopefully your bird will become a family pet that all can love and enjoy

Do you let it out?
Are it's wings clipped?
Does it have toys?
Do you spend time with it?

Also remember that parakeets are not native to this continent, they have been bred in captivity and are not capable of taking care of themselves on their own. And they are little babies; a baby sleeps in a crib and spends time in a playpen so they will not hurt themselves because they do not know what can hurt them and are curious. Parakeets are the same way, they can get hurt because they are curious and do not know any better and cannot fend for themselves.

I don't think it's unfair to keep parakeets in a cage as long as they are happy, the cage is big enough so they can flap their wings, and you're taking good care of them. Other than that, as long as you're trying to best to satisfy their everyday needs, then that's really all that matters. And they're mean't to be pets just like dogs. Dogs can't survive without someone taking care of them.
