'You have no idea how angry that makes me.' [Pickles & Penelope]
I have no problem with people expressing opinions.
'That is absolutely disgusting.'[Pickles & Penelope]
Well, it may be or it may not be - I really don't know enough about 'bird diapers'. You need to explain what the basis of this disgust is, I think. Are you certain that these items are cruel?
If these items are cruel, then I agree that they are disgusting. But are they cruel? Is it fair to accuse someone who finds them useful of being 'a person who does not deserve to be a pet-owner'?
'Anyone that uses those for their bird does not deserve to be a pet owner.' [Pickles & Penelope]
I think that this sounds harsh and offensive towards the forum member who uses the item. If there is good reason for being disgusted with it, then I feel that friendly constructive criticism would have been more suitable.
The member in question is upset & offended.
I have noticed how important birds are to the members of this forum and so I can see why people become angry but I can also see that this comment might be considered very offensive.
'I am used to forums that are a little more open-minded when it comes to allowing people to state their opinions.' [Jan Ellen Ball]
I am not saying that you cannot express your disgust at the item, if you feel that it is merited, merely that people should ensure that they have checked their facts and then consider the feelings of the person who might be hurt by certain comments and so choose to word them carefully.
This forum is very open-minded, but I like to try to ensure that no-one is being upset, without good reason, by any of the comments posted. That's all.
Has anyone done any research into these things?
