Well, today I talked my breeder into giving me a 5 week old parakeet. So young, I was cautioned that I may need to hand feed formula if I notice an empty crop.

Regardless, I'm very excited. This is the youngest keet I have ever had. It enjoyed sitting on my shoulder for a few hours before I put it to bed. And I found the youngster perched on the highest perch in it's cage when I checked on it. I was unaware it was even able to climb yet and I left it on the bottom of it's cage earlier. I was pretty proud smile

So here it is. I believe it may be a male, but it's WAY up in the air right now. It's mostly white, very very light grey on it's back, and black eyes. It is yet un-named...until more personality comes out. Sorry it's blurry by the way. I only took one picture cause I didn't want to scare it too much. And the one I took just happened to be blurry.

Snowflake would be happy to play with your new baby as she is just like her/him. Snowflake will hopefully like her new friend she hasnow, Mr. BoJangles. Your baby is just beautiful.

Dyers....Can you tell me what to look for in an empty crop? I have a 5 week old too, but the parents are still feeding it. It left the nest yesterday for most of the day and went back in last night. It did not come out at all yet today. When it was out yesterday, it did not eat on it's own yet.

To Kiwi's mom - on the underside of their neck, you will be able to see a very noticeable lump if they have a full crop. If it is empty, the underside of the neck will look smooth. You can even feel the food inside if your bird lets you do that.
