The scammer, spammer Arlene123 has posted crap on all the parakeet threads. Is there a way to delete just those posts and not the entire thread? And please delete Arlene123 and ban from the site.

I usually do that but I didn't want to open so many threads. Let the moderators open that many and delete them.

All I know is that this site never had this problem as bad as it is now. There were a few here and there but now it is basically turning into a advertising and nut job site.

I don't blame parakeet people for leaving and I can see why newbies are turned off to staying. Everyday we are bombarded with junk, it has become hard to tolerate.

I totally agree and topics also that are placed here over n over and never responded too because of zero interest.

First, you posted on MONDAY. It is barely now WEDNESDAY. I was having an 18th anniversary celebration with my boyfriend. I would hope some patience would be healthy and deserved in this situation. Two days is not an enormous time period.

Second, spam usually gets deleted promptly. Spam isn't just an issue here. It's now a common issue in all forums. We have anti-spam systems in place. The only people who can sign up are people who are not found in those spammer databases. They are completely clean when they sign up. Then they spam, I see them, and it's deleted. There's nothing else that can be done about it.

Most importantly, I have not received ANY complaints about the spam, besides these posts from you two. However, I have received NUMEROUS complaints recently about the "snarkiness" of responses to questions. I've received message after message from people saying that they'll never come back again as a result. I actively defended the posts in every case, saying that the posters here don't mean to be nasty. That it's their care for parakeets that is causing that tone. But it's not stopping the people from leaving. They would rather be somewhere with a more supportive atmosphere.

To summarize. It's frustrating to be continually defending the harsh post style, which I do not personally agree with - and then have you two post snide comments about me because I was away spending a few precious days with my family members.

I never posted snide comments about you personally but I am totally frustrated with the site and all the spam and ads for junk that continually pops up daily. Have you noticed that almost everyone has left this site and it really has no followers any longer? The only daily posts are junk spammers and an occasional bird question. Yes, I have noticed that people have left the forum - and they email me to say why they are leaving. It's no mystery at all why they are leaving. They are quite explicit in their messages to me.

It has nothing to do with spammers.

I am putting the site in full moderation mode. That way I personally preview each message that is posted, before it goes up. That will ensure we have zero spam going forward.

Just to say that in more recent years I have only moderated when called to do so ~ by an alert or a message ~ and I have always responded as quickly as I could.

Prior to that, when I moderated more actively, I was deleting porn and spam regularly ~ often before people even became aware of it.

But one cannot delete something of which one knows nothing. There has to be a moderator alert to ensure that a moderator responds. I have posted this before.

As you say Lisa, it is simply a side-effect of being on the Internet and your site is one of the better ones in keeping on top of it.
