I have a question... I'm quite sure someone along the way has answered it, but here goes anyway...
As you well know, I received Tiki as an Easter gift from my husband. I adore little parakeets and always have... now I have my own!
Anyway, here's my dilemma.
Hubby is usually home during the day. I work Monday thru Friday 8-5. I spend as much time in the same room as Tiki when I am home. I don't want her to get bored or restless, and I do want the keet snuggles and lovins that I know I'll get one day.
Should I get Tiki a playmate? Will she then ignore me and attach to the other parakeet (cause I don't want that). Or shall I get her a playmate and try to train both?
I just don't want my little Tiki being scared and bored during the day when Mommy isn't home to play...

then simple solution get tiki into music leave a radio on and give tiki plenty of toys to occupy the bird...getting another bird before you train tiki wouldnt work an would complicate things as tiki would naturally bond to another of its own species...in your absence

That's kinda what I thought too. Alrighty then... I wanted to go get her some more toys this evening, but work was absolutely beastly today and I ran out of steam before I could motivate myself enough! Lol!
And I will definitely start leaving the radio on for her...

Thanks!

Most definitely hold off on getting Tiki a birdy bud right now. Before getting another, you have to take time to form a very strong bond with Tiki. If you do...then if you decide to get another he will still be attached to you.
Besides if hubby is home during the day he can talk to Tiki and keep him company too right? He will see your whole family as flockmates eventually...that is a good thing smile

As for toys, it's not a good idea to give them mirrors until they are bonded with you either, or they can form a bond to the birdy in the mirror.

Music or tv on when no one is home is always recommended. They don't like silence. In the wild, silence is a sign that a predator is in the midst.

Oh, and one more thing in case you didn't already know-leaving a nite lite on is also good. Helps keep the might frights away and helps them to see IF they do get frightened during the night so they don't bump in to things in their cage.

Oh! A night light!?? I hadn't thought of that... I have just the one.... Thank you!
(Hubby is a natural born Dr. Dolittle... if he talks to her too much, I'm afraid I won't have a Tiki bird! Lol!)

Question along these lines----I know to leave a radio on when we're gone from the house for the bird, but do you leave it on all night long too when you go to bed? Music and soft light for the little birdie?? wink

Nope, no music at night. Just a night light is good. smile

Calliou,
If hubby is a Dr Doolittle then you have nothing to worry about when you're at work. Tiki will be just fine and not lonely at all as long as there is someone there to talk to him and keep him company.

I've got an LED night light that throws out quite a bit of light, I'll have to plug it in and test it to see if that will work.
