We bought 2 parakeets almost 2 weeks ago.
They seem to be doing well so far.

One of them has very gentle chirps.

The other one seems to be "angry" all the time - his(her)?? chirps sound angry and aggressive.

S/he is the bird who escaped when we were transferring them to their cage from the box.

Does the angry chirping indicate an inherently unfriendly personality?

I am not sure what this chirping means and I'd like my daughter to have friendly, trainable birds.

Should I return this one?

Just because the chirps SOUND aggressive/angry DOES NOT mean that they are agressive or angry at all.

Please remember, ALL birds are trainable and can be tamed!

Different chirps mean different things...

There is warbling, which is a soft consistent chirp.

There's a loud chirp, which sounds aggressive, but is really not. It sounds like, "Ack! Ack! Ack!" (Is this the sound you're referring to?) Budgies are not generally mean. Most birds are aggressive out of fear. But just because she/he makes these sounds doesn't mean she/he is mean! It is just being a budgie!

One of my budgies makes this sort of sound, but he is definately not aggressive. He's either scared or having a little tiff with one of the other budgies, but it doesn't last long.

Please remember, birds don't want to be mean. I've never met a bird with an unfriendly personality. I have, however, been involved with birds who have been very fearful and have made that "Ack" screech.

I would not return him/her. Give the budgie a chance! : )

I hope this has helped.

thanks for the feedback!

we always do research and reading before getting a new pet, but with budgies there are so many questions that are "not in the book"!

I'm grateful for having found this forum. smile

Here is a video of them chirping:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84HdNtjvhgo

White head is the gentle chirp-per.

Do they seem to be playing or are they aggressive towards each other?

Today, when I covered the cage for the night I heard mad fluttering sounds & angry chirping.....

Aren't they too young to fight?

Hello =) I watched your video and both parakeets seem to be acting just normal. Some parakeets are more vocal than others. My parakeet Tiki used to ack-ack-ack and flutter around the cage and everything all the time, whereas my parakeet Beaker sings/talks softly. =)
I don't think your bird is angry, I think it's just energetic, but if it does seem to be fighting with the other bird, I would just move them to separate cages. Don't give up! Tiki was always pretty wild but once she was finger tamed I let her fly around the room and I would hold out my hands and she would land on them. It was so much fun and Beaker never has done that. (But I love him just as much of course!)
Anyway, good luck!

we decided to keep the "troublemaker" and he is treating us to beautiful chirps!

The birds occasionally bicker but nobody gets hurt and they do preen each other - it is sooooo sweet!
