[size:11pt]ParakeetLover13,
It sounds like you’ve got your hands full! Since your bird is still quite new to your family, it would really be best if you could find a way to keep your baby in the cage. :)
:) Have all of your food and water prepared and on hand so you can finish as quickly as possible. Use the smaller doors if possible & also try placing your body near the doors while you are working to discourage escaping. ;)
Also, be sure to “bird-proof” your room in case of escape. For example, if the cage is in your bedroom, make sure YOUR doors & windows are closed. If you have a ceiling fan, make sure it is turned off. Birds often like to go to the highest “perch.” Is this “perch” safe? Are there bookshelves that are not flush against the walls? Or cabinets that are raised off of the ground an inch or two? Birds can get into very small places  , make sure those are closed off.
Good Luck & Be Safe!
