Today is Bella' birthday/anniversary/adoption day - we just call it her "birthday" even though it isn't her hatch day.
I can’t believe it has been one year to the date today that we brought home Isabella Rosabeaki (Bella)! It seems like we've had her much longer. My husband picked her out at a Bin-O-Budgies because of her pretty colors, she was young/small, and she had a single cheek dot that was in the shape of a heart. She still has kept her heart cheek dots, although at times other feathers cover them partially, but they all are still heart shaped. She was always easy – she sat on my finger and preened right from my first attempt at hand training. She has (still!) never bit me or my husband, and she loves to eat and will eat anything (pellets, veggies, fruit, grains) without any fuss.
She sure is a handful though! We joke that she has B.A.D.D. – Budgie Attention Deficit Disorder. She is always on the go, never is quiet unless she is sleeping, likes to play, fly, chew/shred, run –all the time! Her favorite things to do are play tug of war with me & my shorts hem. She’ll throw a tantrum and bark and flap her wings wildly if I don’t let her “win” and chew the hem without wrestling it away from her. She also likes to fly – at least 7 laps each time I let her out. She never sits still, where as Juji will sit on me for hours, Bella has to play, sing, explore, bite, chew constantly. She has come close to saying I love you, but I never trained her to talk. She has picked up the Goldfinch’s song, since I feed them out our patio door and they are always right outside.
In celebration of her “birthday” we got her another play gym, a birdy bowling ball game (they pull a lever which sends the bowling ball into the pins - sooo cute!), a bag of dried herbs, 2 boing-type perches with toys on them, a wooden perch, and a new Bird Kabob.
