I'm casually exposing my keets to a singing canary video on YouTube in hopes that one of them will pick it up. Has anyone ever taught their keets to make other bird sounds?
If the canary project is successful I'd like to add a meadowlark too as I love their call.

It absolutely works. I can't assure with a tape, but I'd imagine it's the same.
Lucky used to mimic chickadees and canaries. Sometimes even Robins. We had a house out in the country and we'd put his cage out side sometimes. He loved it and picked up on a whole lot of sounds.
So keep at it if you want.

Oh definitely yes. They pick up other bird calls faster than English, that's for sure.

I figured they'd pick up bird calls quicker. I've decided to eventually add a whipporwill and quail call also. I played some quail calls earlier. Their voice sounds so keet-like to begin with I bet they pick that one up quickly.

My Sweetie picked up a bird call and translated it to human sounds. It goes like this: Adedel ledel lee Smooch Smooch Smooch. That is a kissing sound repeated three times. He made it up himself when he was a baby. HAHA

Shortly after I got my first girl, she picked up the song of the Goldfinches outside, since I feed them on my patio. It is adorable & sounds so pretty! My second hasn't really been exposed to their songs yet since it is too cold to have the windows open. We get many types of birds at our feeders so it will be interesting to see if they pick up any other songs this Spring/Summer. I would imagine playing them a canary on You Tube many times will have them singing it soon.

Thanks for the anecdotes. They're so cute!
I found a website that has tens of thousands of free downloadable sounds (soundboard.com if anyone is interested, in mp3 format). I've downloaded a quail (bobwhite) call. Using Windows Media Player I can set it to loop/play the sound over and over again. My plan is to play it for about an hour a day for them and see how that goes.
If my dogs start making quail noises I'll know I'm really onto something, lol.
Anyway, I decided to start with a quail sound since quail voices are so similar to keet's voices.

You're welcome BLR. For a bird in the wild he IS amazing! I've heard blue jays mimic other birds..but that guy wins it hands down!
